Alright, I tried my best to do a search for a topic comparing these two configurations but couldn't see anything. Right, the TV I'm working with is my new LG 26lc2r My video card on the PC (x1900xt) has two DVI outputs. I'm using one of them with a DVI to VGA converter and then using a VGA cable from the converter to the VGA input of the TV. 720p x264 video image quality looks very good in my opinion compared to regular DVD's and Xvid/Divx videos. Okay now, the TV also has HDMI inputs. And from what I can gather from reading around the internet is that HDMI is the superior connection when going HD... I'm woondering, if I were to get a DVI->HDMI cable (video card DVI output to HDMI TV input) would I notice and difference in image quality vs. the DVI->VGA->TV configuration?
Here's what I think - anyone correct me if I'm wrong: Theoretically the DVI to HDMI connection should be better since you keep the signal purely digital. The DVI to VGA connection involves a digital to analog conversion step which may introduce noise or artifacts depending on the converter. I don't own a converter myself so I don't have any firsthand experience but that's what I think. I do have a DVI to HDMI connection from my Nvidia 7950GT to my SXRD and the results are great at 1920 x 1080. Maybe the only way to tell is to compare the 2 connections yourself on your own setup.
