Okay so one out of every three burns I do with my Benq 1650 does not play or even read in any of my players or comp. So I'm thinking it's finally dying, so in my quest to puchasing a new drive I find myself here. Personally I would like another Lite-on drive one as good or better than the SHW-160P6S. Oh and I don't have SATA connections in my comp.

You must be doing some serious burning. I can't even wear out any of my benqs.

I'm not sure what the top dawgs are these days. Benq and the awesome Plextors are few and far between. I'm stocked up on the 1650's and 1640's!!!!

Did you update the firmware? I'm still running good with BCIC.

You could try removing that Q,take the bottom off and give the laser lens a good swabbing.

You know it man, between my nephew, my mom, and myself I'm burning like a bat out of hell. I'm thinking of just getting the Lite-On SHW 160P6SU EZ-DUB.

I was checking around cdfreaks. Apparently Liteon went downhill since they bought up benq. Some of those members had stockpiles of 20-40 Q's.There's only a certain model of Samsung also highly recommended, but hard to find now.

I still have my original I/O Magic Benq 1620 in the nephews pc.A 1640 in my original 498 mhz conglomorite of a pc in the daughter's room. A 1620 and PX-716A on my backup Athlon 3000+ pc,and the 1650 in my main pc. Then I slapped dad in an extra 1650 in his pc,so he could have dual drives. I told him if he gets rid of the pc,I want that 1620 out of it, LOL.

Also picked up 2 new 1640's day after christmas.A buddy at work wanted a good drive,so I got a good deal on 2 of them.

    Good Luck on your quest.
