I'm trying to make a backup of command and conquer Gernals cd (for computer) but when i try to run my burned copy it wants the original cd. how do i make the computer think i have the real cd without having my original? I tried burning it as an ISO in Nero and it doesent help. It says please insert cd and restart program. I had this trouble with need for speed porsche edition aswell. Both made by EA Games. Did you read 'How to backup protect CD' thread? There are the correct procedures to backup protected CDs such as C&C Generals (which is among the [bold]hardest[/bold] games to backup, being protected by Safedisc 2.8). I would strongly suggest ot use Alcohol 120% (or DiskJuggler, bur I never tested it) and follow the guide: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/23699
When i use Alcohol 120 to burn the game it keeps giving me read disk errors on differant sectors. I want to try disk dump/fireburner method but i cant seem to get diskdump to work right. Im running XP as my os. is there something special im missing?
To make discdump work right you need ASPI 4.60. Install it on XP using ForceAspi: http://www.cyrus.troy.btinternet.co.uk/downloads/frcASPI17.zip I would stick to Alcohol, first. It should be more stable. But just do what it seems better for you. Maybe Alcohol gives error because your readed cannot extract broken sectors well. Did you use the CD-ROM or the burner? Sometimes burners work better. Before burning, scan the image you dumped with CDmage. Do Action-->Scan for corruption and then 'Locate' on the broken sectors. If you have errors on empty sectors the image is good (errors are 'virtual', made by the protection). If you have errors on files, maybe the CD is scratched and you will not be able to burn a good backup copy.
Thank you for all of your help. I'm using a dvd-rom to read the cd. I'll try the other way you suggested. I shouldn't have any scraches. I just bout it on Sun. Thanks Again. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Still wont work. i tried with both my dvd-rom and lite-on 40x burner. i tried Alcohol and it gave error reading sector xxx(whatever it was on at the time). so i tried the ddum and fireburner method which was recommended in all the walkthroughs. still ddump said error sector xxx(whatever it was on at the time). My drive read the cds ok why wont they scan to make an image? what should i do next. Help!!
If you have selected 'Safedisc' setting (either in DiscDump or in Alcohol) you should be able to skip read errors well and fast...I don't know what to tell you, sorry.
