    Afternoon all

Just listening to my iPod video and my left ear seems to have lost the bass. There is sound but compared to the right ear it sounds like the bass has all gone.

I think it's happened to me before but i moved the wire and it came back. I've made sure it's all straight and it's still happening. Any ideas? They are the earphones that come with the iPod but i'm extremely careful and i've not bent the wires or dropped them hard on anything. Anybody come across this and out of interest how much do they cost to buy seperately? (At work so can't go into certain sites to check)

    Afternoon, Trevor.

iPod headphones cease from working very often, because they are of [bold]extremely poor quality[/bold]. If they are indeed broken, I urge you to get a better pair of headphones that can really do justice to your digital music collection, as the iPod headphones certainly don't.

A couple of examples of better headphones

    [bold]Sony MDR-EX71SLB Fontopia Headphones[/bold]
These are the headphones I personally use, and produce a very rich and bassy sound. The price is a little steep in comparison to the iPod headphones.. but you get what you pay for ;-)

    [bold]Sennheiser MX550[/bold]
These are also a great pair of headphones with Dolby Pro Logic, which produces fantastic sound output. Near anything audible that is produced by Sennheiser is worth considering..

Hey Lethal, thanks for the reply.

I have to say i've not had too many grumbles with the earphones until now. This might sound strange but i like this type of wire compared to previous that i've had. (Does that make sense?)

if they are the apple headphones you can send them back to apple - requesting a pair of new headphones. They should do this because they are covered on the iPod's warranty.

http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/ - fill out the form at the bottom of the page and a new pair should be sent to you FREE *if u are under warranty*

    Indeed it does :)

I maybe should have mentioned the free headphones offer, but I generally like to see people bettering themselves,

But I do respect your wishes.

    Happy iPodding

I might get the new ones anyway and send the old ones back. :)

I'm not sure i want all the hassle of me sending back the headphones though. They do work but the left ear has lost bass. I can just imagine them telling me they work and i've spent money sending it back to them only to get them back again! lol, would be my luck.

you shouldnt have to pay to send them back i think - its apple's fault they dont work - they haven't been manufacturered to a high standard

Go here to receive new ones: http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/

You have to give them a credit card #, but that is only for if you don't send the old headphones to them in return for new ones in ten days.

    Okay thanks.

Has anybody sent anything back? Is it a quick service? Are we talking a couple days or a week+?

I've never used it, but I soon will for the earbuds.
