As per the title... I came across this and thought it looked very interesting. http://www.wii-clip.com/ On close inspection it's gonna take more than 2 mins soldering (clipping the chip win would take a very short time though) but looks to be a lot easier. The thing is - perhaps you will be able to buy a "clip-ready" chip soon meaning more ppl could do a DIY job...
Alright! I was hoping to see something like this soon! The price is good too. $30 is cheaper than having someone else mod the console. I managed to mod my launch wii myself with a wiikey but some of my friends have D2C's which I know are far beyond my soldering ability and they're leery about sending them out for modding. The only thing I'm worried about is that it claims to be compatable with D2A chipsets. As far as I know the D2C modchips are only compatable with D2C wii's. Maybe I'm wrong though.
I love this idea having installed many D2CPro's myself and its a bitch let me tell ya. The only issue that I have is I have never seen an explanation on how the clip actually adheres to the IC. I'm afraid that it will knock loose somehow. If anybody has any info on how it is secured then that would be great info.
Lets not forget the issues that Wlip had with over heating. But it looks like it will be nice if it is universal between all Modchips. You would just have to trace the lines on the PCB to figure out what lines go to what leg on the IC to make the proper connections between each Modchip.
Where did you read this about the Wlip. I have been searching for reviews and could not find any. ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks.
