Hi all, and thanks in advance for any help I may receive.

I have a PNY GeForce FX5500 PCI card that has a fan that sounds like a diesel running. It is a new card that was just loud out of the box so im not dealing with dirt or dust as the culprit.

I have never replaced a fan/heatsink before, so is there a relatively simple may to do this? More specifically im concerned with the adhesive damaging the chip when I try to remove the heatsink.

    Any tips would be appreciated!

Something like this might help you out http://www.vantec.com.tw/ccba4p.html , as for removing the old HSF just undo the retaining screws and lift it up gently, it shouldn't have adeshive compound just paste under the old one, which has to be cleaned off completly before installing the new one ...would recomend using a quality thermal paste such as artic silver 5 or similar ... ;)

    Thanks,
Thought it was adhesive but it was just really sticky paste. Popped off like a champ.
