I have a dvd a friend gave me that has a football game and commercials. I want to cut out the commercials. I usually use TMPGEnc MPEG Editor to cut commercials. My question is what is the best way to get the DVD files to a single MPEG2 with sound for editing without lossing quality? Also, what is the best way to burn the finished MPEG2 back to a DVD without lossing quality? Thanks guys.
I don't know much about Tmpgenc, but I can tell you that Womble MPEG Video Wizard will edit the VOBs as-is, without any need to do conversions and re-encoding and losing quality. Do not bother trying to combine all your VOBs into one file, let alone converting it to standard MPEG-2. Just load the first VOB, use the mark-in and mark-out to select the section you want, and drag it into the timeline. Repeat the process with the rest of the clip as well as any other VOBs, right-click the timeline and select "clear gaps" (only if necessary) and hit the record button. I'd hope Tmpgenc can import VOBs without re-encoding them, but I'm not sure about that.
