I have a VCR/DVD recorder. Now I can edit menus and chapters on the recorder before finalizing, but what I'm wondering is if I can edit the DVD (add menu's & chapters) on my computer using Nero 7 instead. I have a lot more options using my computer, but I can't get the computer to read an unfinalized disc. Is that at all possible??

i just got a dvd recorder. i believe you must finalize the disc before pc will read it . then you can reauthor in nero or other programs.
i have not did this yet but pretty sure this is the way to have to do it
downfalls of this seem to waste discs.

born2ride is correct. Most Stand Alone DVD recorder disc will not be readable in your PC computer until you have finalized it. This goes the same for allot of the HandyCam mini disc as well.

Okay so if I wanted to edit the menu's on my computer I'd essentially have to burn the disc twice. Once on the dvd recorder and then again on my computer. I thought there might have been a way to avoid this. I guess not though. Thanks for your input guys.

This may or may not help you out.

My pc will recognized unfinalized discs from my tv recorder.

Some of those tv recorders will have the V mode and VR mode. VR mode is what a lot of drives won't play. Check your manual or even your menu selection on the screen for a selection of V mode and VR mode.Try to set if for V mode, but I read a post the other day that it restricts some of the editing.

I re-ripped another members backups that his buddy sent him. I was successfully able to rip it for another copy, but it wouldn't be recognized by my stand alone player, just like his copy. I endied up making a duplicate copy of a VR mode backup.

The only way I got around it was going to walmart, bought another tv recorder and used that to play his backup and burned it on my recorder which is V mode. All went well and I took that recorder back to walmart and got my money back, LOL!

As far as editing on the pc: I've got no clue. I do it on my cyberhome, and make copies on all 4 of my benq drives.Nothing fancy but dates, settings, titles, etc, but near perfect booktyped copies that play in 95%+ of stand alone players.

You may want to search in the Home Entertainment room for tv recorders.
