editing before or after a raw avi transfer???

    I was wondering what is the best methode of editing your movie files. I would like to edit after they're encoded into a smaller format, but I am wondering if its best to do your editing while they are still in raw format. Also, what is the best format to encode raw avi transfers to put on a dvd?
