Hello everyone, I want to purchase some software so I can convert my old Hi 8 tapes to dvd. I have the necessary connections like firewire etc I want to know what software people recommend. I have use studio 8 in the past but I keep getting dropped frames and it is becomming rather annoying. Which programs do you recommend for a beginner to intermediate user. Thanks Steven
Dropped Frame aren"t generally a Software Issue but is More of a System performance Issue.... Dropped Frames are Usually Caused from your Hard Drive not being able to write all of the Video/Audio Data to your HD Fast enough OR Your system isn"t fast enough to Compress all of the Frame in Real time or a Combination of the Two.... Some Programs will Intentionally Drop Frames or add Frame so the Video Stays in Sync with the Audio.... If you Don"t want to Drop Frames then you Should Make sure that if you are Captureing to Mpeg format that you have a Fast enough PC or if Captureing to a Low Compression AVI format that you are Captureing to a second Dedicated Defragmented Fast Hard Drive... You can also aviod Dropped Frames For the Most Part of you used a Capture device that uses Hardware Compression in which case the Video would Get Compressed on the Device then written to your HD which saves Disk space and Eases up the Strain on your CPU..... If you want Trouble Free High Quality Captures that are In Perfect sync without Dropping Frames then you will need to Invest a Couple Hundred Bucks in a Good Quality capture Device Like the "Canopus ADVC-110" ....... As For editing Software I guess It depends on how much you want to spend and what Type of Features you want..... Here is a Link to a Good and Very In-Expensive editing Program that Has Pretty Much any Feature you could want, it is Called "Magix Movie Edit Pro 10".... http://site.magix.net/english-us/ho...10-clc/functions/?no_cache=1&version=standard Cheers
Thanks for getting back to me. I do need to get a new computer, what kinds of specs should I be looking for in a machine in order for it to handle my video editing, again I am not going to be doing any professional stuff just simple transfering to DVD and maybe adding some transitions etc. Thanks
Well for Video editing and Video Capture it is Good to have a System in the 2.5 to 3.0ghz Range or Faster with at least 512mb or Ram and if you are Going to be Doing Video Capture it is Good to have a second fast, Big Hard Drive..... If you have an Older System and want to Upgrade it to a faster System you can do it Pretty Cheaply if you do the Upgrade yourself which isn"t as Hard as It might sound.... TigerDirect.com has a Sale right now on a Motherboard and a 2.93ghz CPU for about $70 which is an extremely Cheap upgrade that would Be Plenty Fast enough for Doing Video editing/Capture or anything else you wanted to do... Here is the Link: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1697047&Sku=MBM-PM8MV-340 They also have a Sale on Hard Drives, You can get a 250gb Drive for about $70... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1265028 Upgradeing your System would be Much cheaper than Buying a New System and the Instalation is not very Hard as I built my Second and Third and Forth Computers.... Cheers
