Hi, Couldnt find an easy reference to this question. Have Nero Premium 7, how do you edit a large video file down to a manageable size using nero 7? A file that is about 9gb down to a couple of 4.7 dvd's?
Most likely you face three choices. Option 1: burn the file to a double-layer disc (I assume as a Video DVD; I am not sure how it would handle something burned as data e.g. an AVI file). You will retain original quality and it's quicker. Option 2 is to let Nero compress the file to fit on a regular DVD-5. However you will sacrifice some quality (you may even sacrifice a little using the above method if your video is really 9 gigs, as a double-layer actually holds a bit less than that). Use the More->Configuration screen to alter video quality. You can often reduce file size considerably by selecting a non-LPCM audio like MP3, which will spare some small sacrifice in video quality. Option 3: The third option is to split the video between two DVD-5s. Use Nero Vision to edit the file(s). There is an editing screen with a little scissors on it and after clicking that you can adjust the slider bars just above the buttons to select the portion of the movie you want to put on a disc.
Thanks for some ideas. I tried option 3, however when I went to half the 2 1/2hr file, it said the portion I chose to cut was too large and would upset the remaing segments. (nero vision automatically put the 9gb file into about 47 segments). Any further ideas using nero vision etc??
@jbart1 You can use Nero recode to do your 9GB movies to 4.7GB discs. If you do just the movie only most often the quality will be good. Set Recode to do advanced analysis(two passes) and slow encoding. If the percentage is above 70% the product is good. I do all my 4.7discs with recode or Shrink. Too much trouble trying to split the movie to 2 discs.
