To all whom may be reading this ... I have really slow internet on a really fast connection. It's not Antivirus,spyware,virus,or any programs startingup with the pc that are causing this. Its not even my modem. If I have 1 p2p program like kazaa or bearshare running then internet explorer takes forever to open (on AMD2400+ 1GB ram DDR400) I have reason to believe its my eithernet card. It's a very old SMC1211TX (10/100 PCI) with 64k maximun receive buffer size. what features in a card should I look for when buying a new 1? please respond A.S.A.P. thanks in advance
Although those are cheap cards, for an internet connection that card will be fine. My old computer had an ISA ethernet card and it was fast, so your problem is probably the computer not the card (10MB/sec is plenty fast).
Hey thanx for a quick reply but I fail to see how it could be the computer. Any other ideas? someone sugested a 100/100 card with 512k maximun receive buffer size. Any other ideas anyone?
A 100/100 would be great if your internet connection was that fast. Even if you paid the premium 5MB/sec DSL modem that businesses use an old 10MB/sec network card could handle it. The problem is either your service provider or the computer but I suppose it could be a faulty network card. A 100/100 would cost you much more and would not be fully used at all. The reason ISPs use those cheap 10/100 cards is because the connection is much slower then the card (an ols ISA ethernet card would work fine).
uninstall your net card take it out restart your computer turn it off again put the card back in let xp set it up and DON'T play with the settings sounds like not enough upload bandwidth
Thanks to everyone who replyed! After hearing u guys all out I decided to get a good 10/100 I got the D-LINK DFE530TX Reason I thought it would be good is its got 2 seperate buffers 128k recieve & 128k send for a total of 256k ( most card share the send/recieve buffers but not this one) Like a charm my internet is that now of a normal human being.
