I downloaded the trial version of Nero 7 to backup DVDs and was able to do so successfully. But I then found that emails sent to me with certain attachments (wmv I believe) would not open. A msg box told me I had create an association or something like that, via folder options. This is double dutch to a luddite like myself. I uninstalled Nero and all was well again. Is this a common problem with Nero or is it something I can fix easily.

When you install Nero, one of the things it does is to associate certain files with itself. Perhaps in this case it associated one it can't play, like the WMV.

Two things you might do--first, during the install check for this association and uncheck it so Nero won't try to take control of it. While you are doing that, you might check to see if any other files types are in the same situation.

To check what is registered to use a certain file type, open the Control Panel and Folder Options. Look at file types and you will see an entry for WMV, Windows Media(TM)Movie. In my case, Nero Showtime is registered to handle that file, and if yours was set up that way, ShowTime should open and play it.

If you reinstall Nero (use the clean tool first) and continue to have problems, go to the above location and change the association back to the Windows Media Player.
