I'm thinking of buying a ewr20v5 model recorder. I'm useing my vcr to
record a one hour soap every monday thru friday. Does anyone know if I could
use the timer and have the dvd do the same job useing the rw disc

I dont know the difference betweeen the 4 model and the 5 model except the 5 model is the latest. I did read on the box and it stated that you can use the -8x disc.

so it comes down to the 04 can not record on -8x disc without updating the software. The 05 coomes with it already built in.

Here's the answer I got from Funai:

The major differences are the recording speeds. The EWR20V5 is upgraded to work with DVD-R 8x and DVD-RW4x. The EWR20V4 requires an upgrade for the -R 8x and only uses DVD-RW 2x.

Thanks, you are correct. They did modify the ewr20v5 to accept the -x8 to keep up with the times, and increase sales.

I have a question about this model. I read in a review that the 4 model can only create chapters in 10 minute intervals. Is it possible with this 5 model to create chapter points manually, either while recording, or afterwards?

The 4 makes chapter marks at 5, 10, 15, and 20 min intervals. You can make your selection before you record and the machine will automatically put the marks in for you.

You can manually put marks in in RW format only.
