SNES Station doesn't support loading from HD so don't bother to even try. I'm not sure about PGEN but probably it won't work neither.
actually I got SNESstation to load up from my HD today. I haven't gotten the games to load up yet, but the emulator is working. You can do the same thing by plugging your HDD into your PC, but if you plan on loading a lot of stuff from your PC its best to be able to network it. FTPing is being able to see/edit your files on your PS2 HDD and memory card on your PC without removing the HDD from the PS2.
hey all ive been reading this threat and it seems pretty interesting about emulation...i manage to make work the snes station on my ps2 i have a flip top w/ swap magics cd/dvd ver 3 and it worked pretty good. however i couldnt manage to get the imbnes to work. i know that is psx1 based and i will need to do other stuff to boot it as a ps1 in my ps2, so i was just wondering what i need to boot it i have action replay max so if thats help but not sure, i just wanna know what i need to do to make imbnes to work on the ps2 and thanx a lot....sorry fot the long post -_-'
Well, i've got 4 discs of SNES emulators & roms, 2 for PS2, that work real fine with SM & No Solder, +2 for PS1, that i haven't managed to get it to work...
I have a ps2 w/ swap magic disc and i just got the snes station and manage to get it to work there are few games that runs in black & white screen but i just adjust it to nstc/pal or what ever and they manage to run "ok" but i got IMBnes butsince is a ps1 based snes emulator originaly for the ps1 console u need to have a modchip so u can run it in a ps2 as a ps1 "backup game" it wont work with swap magic. i got a ps1 with a solder modchip and tried the same cd that i burned the IMBnes emulator and it did work fine
Yes, you can run emulator from HD, but emulator itself cannot load roms from there because it is not supported. This seems to be quite interesting issue: Someone got it to work with SM without problems but another one won't. I don't know details about this, but I've heard that at least one of reasons lies in emulator's coding. IMBnes is for NES games, not SNES...
Ok I understand that the snestation does not work with the hd loader but I tried anyways. Now I noticed when it runs if you press select it asks for you to insert disc and press X. Do you think it could be possible to burn the roms onto a disc and read it that way? I do not have a modded ps2 - just the hd loader and the will to exploit it. I thought that it said on the website that the author of the snestation would be working on a version of the program that would support the hard drive. This is dated dec 22,2003!? What happened?
If you ment that you'd use emulator itself from HD and ROMs from separate CD it should be possible, but I don't know can PS2 read burned CD without some kind of mod: Safest way to test that is to throw emu to HD and burn some ROMs to CD-RW. If I've understood correctly the project isn't dead, but the author (Hiryu) doesn't have much time to spend with it nowadays. He's given his blessing to couple of guys who are planning an unofficial fix for Swap magic problems but situation of next official build version is still unconfirmed.
ok I tried to burn the roms onto a cd. Then ran the emu off the hd. I then hit select and put in my cd. I think it worked but I cannot find the roms. I have the following on the screen: file folder followed by "..." file folder followed by "RES" I used nero to burn the cd and the guide to burn them from the snestation website "creating a cd for modded consoles". I stuck in a file folder of four roms along with all the zipped roms for good measure. - I have no clue what I'm doing - can you tell? I am pretty sure that it does read this disc as it gives me more than the two filefolders mentioned above when I just run the snestation without the disc. I think that I am doing the burn incorrectly as the last time I used nero is about 4 years ago backing up cd's for my ps1. I am speculating that the cd r will work on an unmodded ps2 with the hardrive loaded up with the emu because the emu program does not do the Sony check for county code, copy right etc? Does this sound right, no?
am I right in saying that... even though I can FTP my PS2 and I have a hard drive with hd loader I won't be able to use emulators unless I have a mod or swap?
Quotes from the official SNES Station forum: "Unfortunately, SNES-Station won't read ROMs from the disc unless you use a swap trick or a MOD." "SNES-Station won't run ROMs using AR Max, and it never will. AR Max uses a method for loading CDs that's like UMCDR (ahem). Therefor if SNES-Station won't work with UMCDR, neither will it work using AR Max."
Did a lot more searching and found some actual messages from Hiryu on a different forum. I think alot of these threads could be averted if he would just update his site with a quick line that he is still working on this project with a little info on what has happened lately. I'm not saying that he needs to give us a date of the new release or anything like that. The last udate being 2003 give the impression that it is a dead horse and everyone seems to want a turn giving it a good whack. It's seem obvious that there is a fair amount of demand for the new version from what I can tell. - my two cents....
thanks, I know that I won't be able to use SNES station, but will i be able to use other emulators and differents roms? besides snes station
if people are looking for romz, try searching for them on bit torrent networks, such as torrentspy.com. i have downloaded packages using bit torrent that contain a ridiculously huge amount of games. i have this one package that is a 3GB set of rar's that unpacks to over 10GB of super nintendo romz, we're talking every game ever made for the system including ones only made in certain countries, and there are many versions of most games, and all kinds of mods of games. i dont know if this package is still being seeded by someone, but you can prob find something. not too long ago i downloaded a package of a GBA emulator and about 2 GB worth of games. you're best to look for big packages like this instead of looking for rom sites that may or may not have your game. romz can be hard to find too. actually i just checked torrentspy.com and there are some pretty big rom packages for download for a fair number of systems including a 10GB MAME package.
any word yet on the GBA emulator? im dieing for that to come out...if it does...i have so many GBA roms to play
Hi guys, im still pretty new to the emulator scene but i have a question to ask. i have had my ps2 modded for about a year now with a magic 5 chip and have been having no probs with it ...until recently. i've been playing WOW since it came out therefore my consoles(ps2,Xbox.halo.ver,gamecube) have been neglected aside from the one or two games that i've bought recently Yet now that i've found these links im getting back into playing with my ps2. so here's the prob i can get snestation to work once out of 20 times of restarting my ps2...arghhh. it plays dvd back ups fine but it just turns into a red screen when i put in the cd-r ocasionlly it works though, it also doesn't want to load my ver. of hd loader..so should i just get a new ps2 or is this common? any help would be greatly appreciated
the problem is probably fixable. have you ever been able to play cdr's in your ps2? like ps1 backups or ps2 backups of cd games? its possible that the one connection needed for playing cdr's was not connected properly the first time and you just didnt notice because you just played dvd games. its possible for wires to come loose too. as a side note, regardless of whether you can get it to work or not, i dont know why you would bother buying another ps2 just to play emulator games. you likely have a computer with some controllers, so why dont you just use that? in addition, if you like the ability to play on your console so you can play on tv and take it with you places, you can just buy a cheap old laptop that is capable of playing most old-console roms. i have played ps1 emulators on really shitty video cards (you can do it on a 32bit GeForce 400MX, a card that you cant even buy new anymore, and if you could it would cost like 10 bucks). so anyway, the idea is that a cheap used laptop would play most emulator games and would be portable like the ps2 and would be no hassle. if you dont have controllers, all you need to do is by a couple pc ones, or you can even purchase those USB controller converters that allow you to use you ps2 controllers on pc. all you gotta do is hook up the laptop to a tv and you're golden, you can just treat it as a portable emulator player, just like with the ps2, except far less hassle.
Well i figured it out.. it turned out that the hard drive that was the problem. i took it out and everything boots fine. except for the hd loader which was a torrent ver. but i dont think it was cracked because it goes into FSOD (frozen screen of death). oh well the hdd i have came with ffx1 so maybe i just need a different one anyway thanks for the help.
