    Hey gang,

I tried searching the forums here for a good enclosure for the DW1655. I know I could use something like the BYTECC ME-320U2, but I could have sworn that BenQ made one specifically for the DW1655. Am I mistaken on that one? They do make an external version of the burner, it stands to reason that they make an enclosure to *make* it external. :p Any opinions on any of the third party ones would be appreciated. Cheers!

i've just got a couple fairly standard USB2.0 Belkin enclosures. can't remember exact details but they work a treat regardless of which drives i put in them..

Thanks Creaky. So basically any one I go with should work just fine?

one of my DW1650's is mounted internally, the other is still shrinkwrapped as i wanted to keep a spare, so haven't tried a Benq in there but am confident it'd be fine. anyway, i've used various drives in my enclosures, so i know my particular enclosures are up to snuff. However not all enclosures/chipset chipsets are equal, just a quick glance at this epic thread will show that - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/21/102002

just make sure you do your research on any enclosures you come across/or more importantly make sure it's bought somewhere where you can take it back if it gives you grief. Either way if you use Nero to burn, whichever enclosure i/we will be able to decode any Nero logfiles to hopefully get you sorted anyway... my enclosures were off eBay and were real cheap but i'll see if i can find any more info on the models i have.

edit- here's similar to what i have, but haven't got any chipset info to hand.. http://www.ciao.co.uk/Belkin_Components_Belkin_Hi_Speed_USB_2_0__5465186

Thanks for the tip, Creaky. I'll definitely take a good look at the different enclosures before I decide on one. Anyone else have a DW1655 and know of any offhand that they've gotten to work successfully?

Another related question... instead of going with a full fledged enclosure, what about going with a USB to IDE adapter, such as the one shown here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16812156101

Is there any advantage of going with an enclosure over a regular adapter? The reason I wanted to go with the enclosure is because I wanted to be able to take out my DW1655 and take it with me if need be, as well as be able to do that with some harddrives. I'm thinking I might be better off buying a second External version of the DW1655 and just getting a USB to IDE or a USB to SATA adapter. Any thoughts?
