    Hey I just started again encoding with dvd rebuilder. I backed up a 3hr movie with HC Encoder, profile set to best quality. It took my comp 316mins to do this. My question is, is CCE that much faster. Im running

    3.0ghz pentium Laptop With HT technology
    512-128mb shared ati vid card
    60gb HD

    thanks

    It is much faster...my system specs are below. I started with HC encoder and was getting about 4-4.5 hours per full movie encode (I think those were the times I was getting, it has been a while). I now use CCE and am averaging about 1 hour per pass for a full movie. I generally use 3 passes so am getting about 2.5-3 hours per encode. Download a copy of CCE SP trial and give it a shot. Set it for 2 passes since that is what you'll be using if you decide to purchase CCE basic (more passes are available on CCE SP). The trial version will leave a watermark on the bottom of the video you encode, but at least you can see the results and the encoding time and decide if the time saved is worth the $60 purchase for Basic.

    encoding times will vary depending on your system and making sure not to multitask. My typical times vary from as fast as 82mins to 96mins using CCE with 3 passes. I've done long movies that are typically 125mins.

    I encoded a movie using both methods yesterday, using HC encoder and the CCE encoder.

    HC=429mins
    CCE=259mins

    Exactly the same movie, considerable time difference. Quality really was not noticeable.

    I just switched over to DVD-RB from, Shrink and DVD-Lab Pro. DVD-RB is certainly a slower process, but overall the project control is far superior.

    I still pre-edit using PGCedit and VOBblanker so far without problems.

    Generally averaging 252 minutes (4.2 / 4.5 hrs) during encoding phase via DVDRB using ProCoder 2.0x Mastering Quality setting. Yea I realize the Mastering quality option adds considerable amount of time to the encoding but is 4.2 hrs about normal?

    System specs -
    WinXP Pro SP1 x64
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1.81 Ghz
    1.5 GB DDR Dualchannel RAM
    80 GB SATA Main drive (drive DVDRB running off)
    250 GB IDE Encoding/DVDR (WORK drive)
    300 GB IDE Output /DVDR Storage (Final Output)

    Usually use default output option since I prefer to test all my rips/encodes via WinDVD before burning disc. Too lazy to hafta mount ISO via DaemonTools
