Hello! First thread but long time reader - just signed up as I am having serious issues with my videos. I have been searching for hours on various sites and forums, including the big ones; not finding a solution... so I really hope somebody can help me here. Im pretty experienced with computers and such, but am probably a rookie [just better than a newbie haha] when it comes to video/audio encoding. Anyway, here I go.

I like to convert pretty much all my videos to an AVC Video/AAC Audio file within an MP4 container for a simple reason - cross compatibility between my Sony PSP and PC. However, i'm having massive problems. The video's play fine on my PSP, but on my PC [MPlayerC-HC with latest ffdshow] these problems occur:
    - Random "ultra-fast" frame rates, rapidly going from a few fps too fast [eg 35-40] to turbo mode [100+] within a second, throughout all the videos
    - Audio lasts for two or so seconds, then "blip-blop-crack" [decompression error sounds], then silence for the rest of the video.

It is really confusing me. Mainly because my PSP plays them 100% fine with no errors at all! And the errors in MPlayerC are not random, it's as if the file is literally corrupted/damaged [like a broken AVI download] playing at silly speed mode :p

HERE IS WHAT I HAVE TRIED SO FAR....
    - Using the inbuilt AVC decoder in MPlayerC-HC instead of ffdshow
    - Turning off the inbuilt audio switcher in MPlayerC
    - Using AC3Decoder to handle the AAC audio stream
    - Using the inbuilt AAC decoder in MPlayerC to handle the audio stream
    - AND EVERY possible combination of the above. Even when I tell MPlayerC to use "no codec" so to speak for the video, the audio is still damaged-sounding and the seek-bar skips parts and goes turbo then slow, etcetera.

So to sum it up, i've tried all that and the problem remains EXACTLY the same. I really don't want to ditch MPlayerC-HC or ffdshow! Should I try another codec pack though just incase? Or is this unrelated to ffdshow?

Oh and also, for encoding the AVC/AAC in MP4 video I have tried PSPVideo9 and TMPGEnc 4 Xpress [i own a copy of TMPGEnc 4 and LOVE IT it's amazing]. In TMPGEnc4 I made sure it is within spec of PSP compatible [if you require more details just ask] and it works fine on the PSP but not the PC :(

If anyone could PLEASE help me, I would be so appreciative beyond words as im really stuck. And please dont think im too lazy to search - I have tried the solutions from all other similar issues i've found on the interweb, with no solution! I don't know what i'm doing wrong or what else to try :( thank u

So what you are saying is that you want to convert your .avi files to PSP compatible .mp4 right? Do you know the resolution of you PSP monitor? If so good. Create an avisynth script that resizes the movie to that size. Load it into megui. Run the updater and download the PSP profile. When finished mux audio and video with MP4BoX.

Here is the first step to success:

    Good luck.

The PSP doesn't have any problems. I know all the specs that the AVC/MP4 video has to be for the PSP to play [Low Complexity, Level 2.1, etcetera] and it works 100% on the PSP. I already said that...

It's the computer that has major issues playing back an AVC video file with ffdshow, or any other codec i've tried.

Forget it, I guess I have to keep my video library in inferior DivX format and then convert them to MP4(AVC) whenever I want it on my PSP because ffdshow and every other codec and video player program does the exact same thing - doesnt even know what the framerate of the video is and just guesses it wrong.

Maybe i'll ask on another forum one day when I can be bothered, where someone might actually understand me. Thanks anyway. Cya.
