    Welcome to aD!
Nero can't do copy protected DVD's.
So you'll either need to have AnyDVD running in the background (free 21 day trial). http://slysoft.com
Or free - rip the dvd w/ dvdfab decrypter then open those files in Nero. http://dvdidle.com/free.htm

    editted to add:
One copy protection Sony's ARccOS can give either of the above a problem so here's a great guide to follow using dvdfab decypter/vobblanker and nero's recode for further help:

Hi Binkie 7. God i feel such a fool. As soon as a read you can't copy protected dvds i thought am i an idiot or what.I probably shouldn't have posted this in nero as it's shrink and decrypter i use to copy with. Please forgive me for bothering you. If you don't' mind please let me know if I can continue in this forum or if I have to go into another forum. It is such a lot to take in. Excuse me but I have had a mountain of problems the last 2 to 3 weeks with my computers. LOL
    You can probably relate.
    Sincerely

No need to feel like a fool!! We all have are 'blonde' days :0) I've had my share and I'm a brunette :0)
Yes you can continue in this thread since it does relate to Nero which shrink uses Nero's burn engine.
Neither program is updated any longer (shrink or dvd decrypter) so the 2 I listed above are the way to go when problems arise.
Let us know how it goes or if you have any problems!!

    Hi Binkie
I've just downloaded cryptainer. It's on my taskbar but i'm not sure what i do next. I know it will decrypt.
so do i put the dvd i want to copy in the drive and it will decrypt it and then do i use shrink to copy it. Sorry totally lost.
I was wondering what your time cycle is wherever you are. I'm in Geelong Victoria.
    Thanks

Which one did you download - AnyDVD or dvdfab decrypter?
If it's AnyDVD by default it's set to 'autostart'. You'll see a red fox in the system tray - that's mean it's running. Then you would just open shrink and process as usual.
If it was dvdfab decrypter it is somewhat similar to dvd decrypter. Creat a folder where you want to save the dvd - insert disc - open dvdfab decrypter. Under source pick the drive the dvd is in then under target pick the folder you created to save the movie. Now click start. You'll receive a message saying something like 'all files will be deleted in xxxx (folder name you created). Are you sure?' Click yes.
Once done then open shrink and use the open files option. Pick the video_ts folder dvdfab decrypter created in the folder you created. Then process thru shrink as usual.
You'll get the hang of it in no time!
My time zone is East Coast USA.

I don't think this is the sw you need as this program encrypts date, i.e. it puts the data in a container so no one will be able to access it. You need a [bold]decrypter[/bold] to do this job. Go back and reread Binkie's posts and click on the links that were given.

Here is a page you can dl the sw. You will need DVDFabDecrypter

    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/software.htm

This will rip the movie to your HDD. Here is a guide that will explain how to use the program

    http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=51904

After the file is ripped since you state you have Nero, the you can use the Nero Recode program to compress and burn this file. Here is a guide, just read the parts that pertain to the programs you have. Read the blog entries

    @binkie

No problem, did not mean to butt in, just saw the sw the poster was using and wanted them to get the right one. No sense wasting time using the wrong program :)

Hello there Binkie 7 and Arniebear.
Well I have run into trouble again.
    The burning progress failed 8x(11,080KB/s)
Successfully encoded ready for burning with appropriate s/ware.
Files are in folder. Size 4,463 MB Total processing time 9hrs 12 mins.
This what was in the dialogue box. Hope it makes sense to analyse what I have to do.
    Regards and thanks.
    12.14 pm here now.

Well we passed one hurdle now we just have to get you thru the next one!
Did you use Nero to burn? Nero will save a log that can help us try & figure out why the burn failed.
If you have Nero 6 - look here: program files>Ahead>Nero>nerohistory.txt
For Nero 7 look here: program files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>nerohistory.txt.
Just be sure to edit the serial # out - they usually begin w/ 1A,1C or 5C.
Just copy and paste the last log - they are separated by something like this:
    =====*** Nero API Burning History***=====

The 9 + hrs is way too long also.

    Hi again Binkie.
Let me first say this. I am so grateful for your help and Arniebears. I want to be able to learn about all this but the stuff you have just wrote me makes me totally lost. I just don't understand all that you wrote. Firstly I don't think I have the Nero version that you mentioned was it Nero 6 or 7? All I have is "Nero Express" "Nero Start smart" "Nero cover designer" "OEM" and Nero online upgrade! The whole thing really confuses me. I have only had this computer 2 weeks and I have had a lot of trouble with it and I think they only put the basic Nero on it. Is there anyway to get the latest for free. I have had a technician come at least 4 to 5 times with problems and it's cost me a fortune and to be honest with you I think he is a quack!!!!
He reformatted my other older computer and his drive crashed in the process and said never mind I have s/ware recovery. "Like hell"
Everything he recovered was in total jargan that couldn't be opened. That's why I think of him what I do. Sorry to go on about all this crap but I'm really quite peed. LOL
I can't believe this. When I put the cd in the drive to check it after seeing that something was written on it believe it or not the movie I burnt works!!!!!!!!!!!! How can that be?
    Regards.

What programs did you use to do the dvd? Like did you rip w/ DVDFab Decrypter then used Shrink? Or which guide did you use?
To check which version of Nero you have open Nero SmartStart - in the bottom right hand corner there will be some circles - move your mouse over them to see which one says 'product center'. Click on that one and it will list the versions you have of the different programs in Nero. Look for 'Burning Rom'.
For the failed burned playing it could have burned almost to the end and the drive can read it - not always the case. Trying it in a dvd player may be another story.
9 hours to back up a movie is a long time especially with a new pc - so you may be in PIO mode and not DMA mode.
