I purchased a Cingular Motorola Razr on Ebay. I have a Cingular Samsung phone. I removed the SIM (smart chip) from my Samsung and installed it into the Cingular Razr. The Razr powered up fine and showed XINGULAR. The the phone asked for "Enter Subsidy Password". I entered 000000 and then tried again with 123456. NOTHING!!!!. Now when i power up the RAZR it says CONTACT SERVICE PROVIDER.....But why? This was a simple CINGULAR TO CINGULAR. I thought i only needed the SUBSIDY PASSWORD if i was trying to use a different servers SIM CARD.....PLEASE HELP

    Hi ggushee,

It is supposed to be that the phone will work on the same network, but occasionally this is not the case. For example, going from Cingular's normal network to the prepaid network will often require unlocking. When your phone won't operate with another network and shows this "Enter Subsidy Password" message it mean that it has an operator/SIM lock.

There are many different ways to unlock your phone. Occasionally you can get the code by phoning your network provider, but this method can be slow, and will often not work. The best way is to pay for an online unlocking service that uses a special software that will reprogram and thereby "unlock" your phone. These services require that you have a USB cable, and cost a minimum of $25. For Motorola unlocking using this method, you can visit this site: http://www.cell-unlock.com

There are also some free unlocking softwares available on the web, but these are often not very reliable, and quite complicated. You can also go to an unlock shop to get your phone unlocked, but this will probably be more expensive than doing it online.

    Best Regards,

    Sina.

    Hi Gordon,

There isn't any software on the market at the moment that supports the Mac. Do you have access to a Windows XP computer through any of your friends/family?

    Best Regards,
