hi all i recently had a power surge that blew my modem inside my computer and the power suplly also blew up lol so while it was in the shop i had a new processor and more ram put in and have now got my computer back and hav re-installed all of my programs. I tried to install my epson cx 3600 printer which worked perfectly well before the computer blew up. So the instructions say plug it in then insert the cd and it will install of the software. But now when it goes to detect the port for the software is unable to find the printer so automatically sets the default port to LPT1. But it keeps saying unable to connect can anybody suggest anything?

Have you tried adding the printer through Control Panel --> Printers and Faxes --> Add a printer ?

Is it possible the power surge could have shorted out components on your motherboard, such as printer or usb busses?

Tried connecting the printer to other computers?

the motherboard was replaced even though th old one worked. It was replaced as the old motherboard couldn't handle the bigger processor so the motherboard is new and i hav a broadband modem and a webcam plugged into the usb and they both work perfectly and yes i have tried adding it through the control panel. Thanx for the help. any more ideas?
