Im looking to buy an Epson stylus photo r200 or r300 (haven't decided if i need the extras on the 300 yet), I haven't been able to find any actual pictures of printed dvds/cds. Can someone who has used this printer let me know how the picture quality is..
I have R-200 print more than 1 hundred DVD label and tell you the true that I can not answer your question, because I dont know your definition of the picture quality Here the scoop (just hope it help) -If I set two DVDs side by side and compare the picture quality then the original is better than the one printed by Epson R-200. - If I set two DVDs side by side and compare the picture quality then the one printed by Epson R-200 is better than the one print with STOMPER label printer. - If I set two DVD side by side and compare the picture quality then the one print with STOMPER label printer [/b]with glossy paper[/b] is better the one printed by Epson R-200. Glossy label is mucho $$$$ - I never experiment with lazer or thermal color printer, cause dont have one But when I show the DVD print with Epson R-200 to my friends they all say "It's look like a real DVD ,not a copy".
rayboy thanks for your post, that's exactly the types of comparisons i was hoping to hear!! If anybody has any pictures of a printed dvd using the epson r200/300 that would be nice too. Again, thanks rayboy!!
Hi. Read this on forum: "SMUDGE WITH VERBATIM PRINTABLE DVD ON EPSON R300". Very good story and information about it, and if you want, I can post you some picture of printing with R300 on DVD´s.
jrochet, I bought the r200 specifically for its cd/dvd printing capability. I was amazed at the results. As rayboy said above, the casual observer won't notice a difference between the backup and the original, it's simply that good. I couldn't be any more pleased with this printer.....and all for less than US$100! I haven't had to buy more ink yet, but I'm sure that won't be cheap. Heck, buying a full set of ink cartidges could easily cost half the price of the printer. I've printed about 60 dvds so far and have used slightly less than half of the available ink, which equates to about US$0.35 each in ink cost. I can live with that. The disc printing software monitors your ink supply and gives you a graphical presentation every time you send a job to the printer. The software is easy to use and quite intuitive. I love this printer and highly recommend it. DF {edited for typo}
dumbfuker, that's some amazing news, i'm buying the r300 on friday (only because i'd have to order the r200 online) and i happened to find a place to buy epson oem ink for these printers extremely cheap. Check out blankmedia.ca, they're selling the full 6 pack (photo) for 45.00 CAD.
Yeah i buy all my media and cases through Blankmedia.ca good people good prices... Never looked at the ink though, thats cheap, It was going to cost me upwards of $65 to get my cartridges *refilled*... Hrrrmm time to make an order, could use another 200 printable dvd's too
Wow, those sound like great prices! I'm jealous. The lowest I've found for compatible cartridges is about US$53 for a complete set of six (all five colors plus black). But that is still better than about US$72 for genuine Epson cartridges. Can I assume that the quality of the generic ones will be as good as the genuine Epson units? I guess I wont know until I try. DF edited to add: Being in the US,I didn't realize I could easily order from blankmedia.ca, but it looks like only a slight increase in shipping cost. Is there no customs or duties cost? It seem like I've heard lots of horror stories about getting things shipped across the border.
shouldnt have a problem with customs or duty, I never have when ordering media, ink, dvd cases etc... from the states so...
jrochet The R200/300 is a very good quality photo injket printer therefore good jpeg file + good compatible surface = incredible results. I've also read the thread with smudging ink with Verbatim disk and I think the person had ordered thermal printable disk. I've used IJP disks from prodisk, ritek and taiyo yuden and no problem with smudging. Dumbfuker, Wassup! I do not understand why you would buy from blankmedia. I just search google and after, humm, 20 seconds, I have found a complete set of r200 compatible cartridge at 39$US. The second site I've looked has another kit at 36$ shipping included.
because blankmedia is in Canadian Dollars... $45 or whatever it was is cheaper than a $39 USD set of ink specialy for those of us in canada who would have to deal with Shipping, Duty etc..
Dumbfuker wrote: I'm really confused but it doesn't matter. Anybody has tried blankmedia inks? Is the result equivalent to OEM?
jrochet blankmedia has OEM compatible inks. It's really not the same as Epson OEM - or if you prefer: Epson inks. We all know that Epson inks are way too costly. All I'm asking is: does blankmedia inks print as good as Epson, without clogging or adjusting the colors?
For cost to quality ratio I am throughtly impressed with the Epson R200. This side-by-side photo shows original discs and copies printed from scans(pesky Sharpie pen on originals required about 30 seconds of retouching on the scan before printing). -Greg

Hey everybody thanks for all of the replies, I actually got the epson r300 on thursday and I must say it is all that I expected and more. The only thing negative I can say so far is that all of my prints are off center by about a milimeter. However I'm sure this is because I haven't gotten enough experience alligning my graphics with the dvd template yet. By the way, GregCab if you have any tips on how to get perfect allignment like the dvd's in your picture you posted then I'd be all set. And just in case anybody cares I'm going to be using Ritek 8x dvd-r's Inkjet Hub Printable which I bought from blankmedia.ca (100 for $73 CAD. Thanks again everybody for helping me make a good decision and buying the epson!!
