OK everyone knows error 05 is a hdd unlock hd error. I have an 1.0 XBOX Softmodded with Splinter Cell (SPECIAL THANKS to the CREATOR for this) i was messing around with ConfigMagic not knowing much about it read the warning so backed up password on hd (hddinfo.txt on E Drive I think) played around but power loss on xbox (SSSHHHHH!!!!!TTTTT) what do you know ERROR 05 on boot up I have searched around web and found the only way to get up and running is a mod chip so what i intend to do is chip it with alladdin advance so I can boot from DVD, re-lock HD, flash TSOP bios, remove MODCHIP and put in another xbox. I only want to flash TSOP because I have never done this before and I will be putting in a bigger HD eventually but with a chip if I fu@k up I can redo it. all i wanted help for is without a modchip how do i get hddinfo.txt from xbox hd to my pc and re-lock it i used xboxhdm to browse drive but it could not find the hd even though it was connected on its own on master cable on ide1 i could lock it with TEAMASSEMBLY password what config magic gave me then got error 06 so it is wrong password.

so any help and knowledge would be appreciated if there is a quicker way than above then let me know please!!!

Actualy your WRONG "Error 06" is the HDD Unlock Error. "Error 05" is the oppisite it is the HDD Lock Error. i.e. You can not run a retail Firmware Image when the HDD **IS NOT LOCKED!!**

Sounds like you'll need to either get a Modchip and a Hax0rd Firmware Image that doesn't care if your HDD is locke or not. Or try looking Here: http://www.xbox-scene.com/tools/tools.php?page=harddrive
To find some Reall Mode DOS Programs. You'll need a 3.5" DOS Bootable Formated Floppy, thankfully Windos XP can still make these.

Since you unlocked your HDD with ConfigMagic your Master Password (not the User i.e. 20-bit HDD Key), should have been changed to "TEAMASSEMBLY" W/o the "". So you should be able to relock the Drive useing that on your PC. Granted that is if your Chipset even supports ATA133 HDD-locking. Not all of 'em do!...

OK installed modchip, i know it works coz when it boots i see the x logo in top left corner. Booted up and wahey no error 05 or 06 just error 16 i believe this is something to do with the dash missing or unable to read and something to do with the clock wrong and also it wont boot any disc in drive not even originals. SOOOO! the only information i can find is to buy a aladdin advance flash external programmer flash the chip with a bios that can boot straight to cd without checking clock and hdd state m8 bios i think. But I aint got a programmer and dont want to be spending any more money on this bloody machine. there must be an easier way????????????????????

    thanks in advance

oh forgot to mention i locked my harddrive with atapwd and tried to unlock it it says its unlocked but when i reboot and go back to atapwd its locked?????? so im guessing if i unlock the hd properly put it back in it might work as the xbox could read the xboxdash files so im guessing anyway

Hey WAHOO I fixed it without mod chip.
basically what i did wrong in the first place was messed around with configmagic backed up eeprom to hd and password changed password on hd but never updated xbox eeprom so pass on hd went to TEAMASSEMBLY so to fix this i:
Connected hd to pc ide1 (removed the jumper making it Master)

Connected dvd to ide2 slave or master dont matter
So only 1 hd and 1 dvd connected

Then I switched computer on and booted up the xboxhdm disc that i burned

It loaded up then i chose option 3 to use the tools as i know dos this was easy to browse around, i typed atapwd then enter to run it was showing my hd and dvd connected

I then pressed enter on the hd then 2 options were given security and s.m.a.r.t

I went on the security option and chose unlock using master password which was TEAMASSEMBLY then a message popped up to say ok it unlocked then i chose the disable option then ok

i then rebooted and went back onto the prog atapwd and checked to see if it were unlocked and wahey it was

I then rebooted again loaded up the disc and chose option 1

i typed in xbrowser and searched through my hd for the eeprom and hdinfo.txt files that i backed up

I found them and noted the whole info hdd key serial number etc etc

I then rebooted chose option 3 and typed hdlock it asked for password this time it was the long one from the info file i just got i typed it in it said locked

I took it out put it in xbox and voila WORKED

    (IT WASNT SO HARD)CRY CRY

sorry for the way ive typed this out im in a hurry to get my tea.

hope this helps other people who have had this problem...

Just a quick Word now that you had to go though all this to finally get back to a working system. Don't you think it might be a good idea to take the Five Minuts (or so), to make a HArdcopy of the Infos in ConfigMagig / LiveConfig. And then place that info to a nice safe place? In case you might ever need it again?
