Hi, I own a HP Pavllion Laptop which came with TS-L532R Combo DVD +- R Writer. I have been not able to burn a single perfect DVD with it. I have used Record Now (OEM) and Nero and used Intex DVD+R(4X), Samsung DVD-R(8x) and Amkette DVD-R(4X) Media. I am able to burn CD's perfectly with the drive though. First I tried to burn couple of Intex DVD+R (DATA DVD) with Record Now and during burning process i used to get error so I thught media might be a problem, so, i thought of changing media. Than I bought couple of Samsung Pleomax DVD -R 8X media. And I used Record Now to burn the files (DATA DVD) and the burned process completed successfully. Then I tried to copy the files back to my HDD to check whether they were copied correctly. Some of the files got copied correctly and in some of them I was getting CRC error. So, now I thought software was the problem. So, I download Nero 7 Premium. Than I tried to burn another Samsung media in Nero Express using speed as 4X and data verification tool on. The burning process was completed sucessfully, but the data verfication failed on the DVD. I used Nero Scan tool too on it and 99.1 % good, 0.7 % Damaged and 0.1% Bad sectors. I tried to copy the files to my HDD and out of 24 files, i was not able to copy 6 files. Than i thought of trying another media, So i bought amkette DVD-R 4X and tried buring it at 2X (Thought slower the better) with Nero Express. The burning went smoothly. This time I turned off the verification feature (Just in case). Than I run Nero Scan tool and again I had bad sectors... So, is it common on a DVD to have bad sector, or there is a problem with my drive? I have the Nero Log File and the screen shot of the DVD scan if any one wants it. Please advise, help needed
Okay ... let's see. First of all you need to get some good media. You really haven't been giving your burner a fighting chance yet. You need to buy either Verbatim, Sony, Maxell, Fuji or Ritek discs. With the Sony, Maxell and Fuji, made sure that it says 'made in Japan' somewhere on the label. Now that you have top notch discs, you need to make sure that EVERYTHING else is turned off on your computer. Things like anti-virus, screensavers and firewalls etc... WILL adversely affect the quality of your DVD backups. I think that you've discovered that 'Record Now' isn't very good. You have Nero 7, that will work very well for you. Try my suggestions, burning no faster than 4x and let's see if that helps you ... We'll go from there Good Luck to you

Please advise what to do... is it my drive now.... On the sony disk it was written made in Taiwan, Could it be pirated SONY disk?
- DMA needs to be ON, fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm - firmware appears to be current enough to recognise the discs..
"DMA if avaiable option"is turned on for the second IDE. Dont know why it's using PIO mode though. Reagrding the firmware.. Its the latest for the drive..i.e HA04. There is no new verison available at the drive manufacter's site, as its a OEM drive came with my Laptop. BTW, Finally had success burning a HP DVD+RW media (made by moser baer). Had only one verifaction error but still was able to read all the files properly. So had success on RW but not a R disc.... Is that a problem with media of drive?
Hey... i have a pavillion hp as well and have the exact same problem... it drives me nuts. I didnt know what the problem was so i ended sending the computer back to HP and they switched the drives. Now i have an LG drive. AND STILL SAME PROBLEM. I have no idea what the problem is and sometimes it works. I think it might have to do with what files are being burnt. If you figure it out i would sure like to know.
