I am having a problem that I have seen from others report...
I am attempting to create a DVD9 using 2 avi files, at the end of the transcoding process...just before the DVD write begin, the process fails.
I originally was using nero 7.0.8.2 (received exe from file hippo). It failed with this error log: http://penguin.tzo.org/err7.0.8.2.txt

I used in in-product upgrade feature and upgraded to 7.2.3.2. That is when I received the "Error in DVD Description".
Here is the log file: http://penguin.tzo.org/err7.2.3.2.txt

Neither process created a coaster, the error/failure happened before writing any data. I have used this burner (external USB2) for several months making DVD9 discs with no problems, now this.

I know that I can create 2 different single layer DVD's (I did with the above AVI files...1 file per DVD), but what is the point of a dual layer burner if I cannot use dual layer discs?

For the record, I followed these instructions:
Firstly uninstall Nero, run the clean tool again,
    http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html

and then re install 7.0.8.2 from here
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845
That is how I started with 7.0.8.2; I only patched when that process failed.

    Any suggestions?

Uninstall nero and run the clean tool again. Updating nero doesn't work properly. Install directly from file hippo 7.0.8.2 and enter your cdkey for the full version. No need to install your nero discs.

    Thanks for the reply DegenX;

I uninstalled nero using General-CleanTool_2_1_5_17.exe, I removed the extra directories and checked for extra reg keys....after reboot, I loaded Nero-7.0.8.2_eng_no_yt.exe that I downloaded from filehippo.

Same result as before, just before I got to the burning (after transcoding completed), I received an error (burn failed). Here is the error file nero offered to create.
    http://penguin.tzo.org/nero_error.txt

What do the final entries in the log file mean? Especially these several lines:
[14:49:04] NeroVision Invalid field in parameter

[14:49:04] NeroVision Could not perform start of Disc-at-once

    [14:49:04] NeroVision Burn process failed at 4x (5,540 KB/s)

    [14:49:04] NeroVision HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\AllocateCDROMs : 0 (Security Option)

Your original version is still installed. Uninstall and use the clean tool link I provided. Then reinstall and [bold]only[/bold] from file hippo link.

I was able to upgrade the firmware for the burner and I made sure that all versions of Nero were removed from my system. As far as I can tell, only the file hippo version is loaded.

I am still getting the same error as before, of course the error in DVD description no longer occurs, I just get a dvd write failure. The DVD description error seems to be specific to 7.2.3.2

I have posted 2 log files, the error report and the NeroHistory file:
    http://penguin.tzo.org/err.txt
    http://penguin.tzo.org/NeroHistory.log

Let me know if there is additional iformation that would help.

    Hello.

Try using the Image Recorder as the output device and create a Nero nrg (image) file as the output. Then try burning that Nero nrg (image) file with ImgBurn.

    http://www.imgburn.com

I would point out that it becomes an expensive process to make coasters out of DL disks. Have you ever been successful in burning DL disks with this burner? Have you backed up a commercial DVD9 successfully before?

    I will certainly try that...
Luckily I have not made any DL coasters yet...it keeps failing just before writting begins...

Thanks again for everyones help with this...
