error message\windows\system32\config\system is missing

    hello everyone
    i left my computer for about half hour and came back to find the error message 'windows could not start because the following File is missing or corrupt ' i dont why this happened my computer seemed fine though it might be caused by a virus anyway i have removed that hard drive and i am using a different one but all my important files are on that HD and i dont want to lose them,
    so does anyone here know how to fix this problem can i take the same missing file from another harddrive and put it on cd ?and how do a put that sort of file on cd i have only ever put music on cds! swo i dont have a clue what to do.

    Have you tried hitting F8 and then choosing Last Known Good Config ?

    The last known config wont work because the file that windows needs to start has been corrupted in some way. Here is a Microsoft link on how to fix the error .. its rather long but its better than losing all of your data.
