Im using AnyDVD & dvdclone to burn my movies and forever I have been using blank sony dvd's to copy my movies onto. Today though something is wrong I keep getting an error when it gets to the writing part that keeps saying please insert recordable media into drive F: and I cant get any of my movies to write to the blank dvds. What do I do thank you for any help you can give. Misty
Hi Misty2006 Are you using CloneDVD from the same peeps as AnyDVD? If you are using the latest version 2.9.0.1? Anything change like using a new spindle of the Sony's? How about the make and model of your drive? You may need a firmware update to help the drive fully recongize the discs you are using.
I am using a new package of dvd's and I also tried two other brands thinking that may be the problem but nothing seems to work. I am using the clonedvd/anydvd from the same people. How do I get firmware updates? I will try anything at this point im going crazy. Thank you so much. Misty
hmmm I'm thinking maybe you are now using 16x and the previous ones were 8x? Ok the firmware update your can get from the drive site or the firmware page. So let's see which version you drive has and go from there. In CloneDVD click on 'write existing data'. Under dvd writer your drive will be listed. Post back the make & model along w/ what is next to rev. (that will be the version of firmware the drive has).
Ok im really not too smart when it comes to this stuff so here goes there are two items in that box this is what it looks like E: HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8483B (rev.B105) F: SONY DVD RW DRU-710A(ref.BY01)
That's exactly what I needed. Yep you can definitely use a firmware update - the latest is BYX5. This should do the trick for you. Here's a link that's also has instructions on how to update/flash the drive to the latest firmware. Follow those - only takes a few minutes to do. http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/dru710adwn.htm Give that a go and let us know. editted to add: You will be updating the Sony drive which is the dvd writer.
ok im lost ha ha, I went to the site and this is what its telling me to do. When using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, log on to Windows as the computer administrator or as a user with administrator access privileges. Before executing firmware update, uninstall any packet writing software, such as [DLA], [DirectCD], [B's CLiP] etc, from the PC. If you are using the DRU-710A, disable [DMA setting] in Windows before executing firmware update. For details, refer to [Help and Support] in Windows. 1 Connect the DRU-710A/DRX-710UL/DRX-710ULT to your computer. Confirm that the drive is detected normally by your computer. 2 If a disc is loaded in the drive, remove it. 3 In the update folder, double-click "710A_BYX5.EXE" 4 Close all other programs and Click [Yes] i dont know where to find the update folder and have no idea how to disable the (DMA setting). im sorry for being a pain
Nah your not being a pain at all. Ok download the installer. It will probably be a zip file. Close all running programs, no discs in drive and keep the power on. Now open the zip file - double click on the exe file. Should open up the installer. May have to pick the Sony drive in the drop down. You'll click something like run, start etc. Takes a minute or so. Once done you'll receive a message like updated, completed and asking to reboot. Reboot and your drive should now be updated.
Ok that was so much more helpful thank you, I got that updated and now we are going to see what happens. Thank you again for all your help.
Okay You can check and make sure the drive is now updated. Look again in CloneDVD - next to rev. for the Sony drive BYX5 should now be listed. Let us know how it goes! Oh and you're welcome
Thats exactly what it says, woooo hoooo im so happy. Im going to burn a movie and see if it works.. Have a great rest of your weekend. Thanks Again!!!
I just wanted to let you know it worked and the problem is solved i cant thank you enough. Its writing to the blank dvd right now. Take Care Misty
You're very welcome Glad that did the trick for you! Have a great rest of weekend too. Happy burning!
