This issue is typically caused by hardware issues or damaged registry entries.

Method 1: Use the System Configuration Utility to disable the Dumprep.exe tool

    1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Click the Startup tab.
    3. Click to clear the dumprep 0 -k or dumprep 0 -u check box, and then click OK.
    4. Restart the computer.

Method 2: Use Registry Editor to remove the Dumprep.exe entry

    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    3. In the right pane, click Dumprep, and then press DELETE.
    4. Restart the computer.

Next, if your not running the newest version of HJK, delete it and install the new one. Download HijackThis. Click, Do a system scan and save a logfile. Copy and paste the log here for review.

    Installed Programs:

Please could you give me a list of the programs that are installed. This will help me create a fix for you.

    Start HijackThis

    Click on the Config button

Click on the Misc Tools button

Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will see a list with the programs installed in your computer.
Click on save list button and specify where you would like to save this file.
When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file.
Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad into your next post.

Brand and model computer, amount of Ram installed?

After you select SAVE LIST in HJK a SAVE ADD/REMOVE SOFTWARE LIST TO DISK window will appear. File name is UNINSTALL_LIST.TXT. By default will be saved in MY DOCUMENTS folder. Click the SAVE button in this window, NOTEPAD opens. Copy and paste text here.

Did you ever disable or remove this file as instructed? It's still present in the HJK log.

Your HJK log shows multiple infections. At this point, I would recommend you reformat/reinstall WinXP. This will only take a couple of hours to do. On the other hand, removing the infections, one by one, will require several more steps, and the use of many different cleaning tools. Let me know how you would like to proceed.
