hi guys. im in need of some serious help. i have a game thats 6.24gb on my hard drive. i tried using nero 7 ultra to burn it as a data disk to a 8.5gb dual layer disk, but recieved an error after about a minute. it said write disk at once failed or something like that. is there a way i can shrink the game files to fit on a 4.7gb dvd-r? my burner supports dual layer disks, im sure, as on the front of the drive it says dvdr/rw & rw dvd+r/dl.. the drive is an nec nd-3520a. does anyone have any ideas? its much appreciated. thanks

What kind of media are you using? That's the cause of the vast majority of problems. See my sig: Use Verbatim DL only.

What version of Nero are you using? I recommend 7.0.8.2 and using the Nero 6 and/or Nero 7 cleantool to uninstall current and older versions. Newer versions of Nero are also buggy: 7.0.8.2 is probably the most stable one produced to date.

I wouldn't try to shrink the files down in a game! It's not the same thing as a movie where you can transcode/encode to a small file to burn onto a DVD5. If you're using DL disks then get the Verbatim disks. they are top notch ..... other DL disks are second rate at best. the latest firmware for your drive is 3.07 what's your current firmware? You can find this out by using Nero InfoTool. here is your drive and what it can do:

I have read in many threads that Nero is NOT the best prog to use when attempting to burn D/L DVDs...I cannot offer any reason, it's only something I have picked up on from this forum.so , as I cannot explain why I do not comment further. Cheers.

I have never had good luck using Nero for burning Dual Layers, the layer break always froze. As for compressing a game disk this will not work as you have both data and image files. Try a program like Blindwrite or CloneCD, both have trials, for making a 1:1 copy of the disk and use a dual layer disk not a single. Just my two cents. Also, checkout the gaming forums there are lots of tips on backing up games.
