I'm getting a lot of problems trying to write DVD with my USB 2.0 external DVD writer, most of them are being written really slowly or they just fail. I'm using Nero OEM version tha came with my LG Multi Recorder HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H10A with the latest firmware update.
My pc is a laptop Compaq NX9005, 1GB RAM, 40GB HD, the USB 2.0 port is being provided by a DLINK pcmcia.

Any idea what is going on?

    Cheers!

    Johann

    Hi jrenck
Something could be hanging up your drive. Reason your receiving a reset error/scsi command error. Your burn failure happens within 30 secs from this log.
Check to see if there are any driver updates for your card at DLinks site.
If you have any other external devices hooked up to the lappy while burning - try disconnecting them.

If you have another usb 2.0 port you can try that one.

The discs you're using are made by Optodisc - iffy - but maybe not be playing into this error. Better to use would be Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji or Sony.
Try the other suggestions 1st & let's see how that goes.

Thanks a lot for your help.
I changed the driver for my pcmcia usb2.0 card and I could write the disk properly but I was getting a changing buffer level and also the writing speed was 4X while my writer should do 8X.
I search through google and I found that there are other people that are getting the same kind of issue but they think that is associated with the pcmcia card bus controller and windows windows XP, I coudln't find a fix for it. My cardbus is O2Micro OZ6933 CardBus Controller, any thoughts about it?

    Many thanks again.

The last log that I've got is:

    Hi jrneck
Glad the drivers update got you burning again.

Now the possiblbe conflict between pcmcia card bus controller and XP
that I can be of no help with. DLinks might be so I would check with them.
This log shows a burn started and ending at 8x.
The Optodisc may be part this new problem. Poorer quality media doesn't always support the speeds they are rated. You can have inconsistency in the same spindle. So you might also want to try some of the media recommended in the above post & see if that helps.
    Oh and you're welcome!
    Keep us posted!
