I having so much trouble burning DVDs. I have a Samsung TS-H552B and usually use Memorex DVDs. When I burn using Memorex DVD+R everything works flawlessly. I have only have one failed. But, when I am using Memorex DVD-R(s), only one of seven-eight will successfully burn. I have tried changing to Sony DVD-R, but still get the same error. Could anyone please suggest what I can do or knwo what the problem can be?

This is the error log I get.

    Hi Isak2003
Memorex uses different manufacturers so you never know who you may get.
Unfortunately with the ones you got they are made by:
    Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA
Not one of the better ones.

For these take the burn speed down to 6x or 4x.
The Sony's try at 8x - better media that Memorex.
Other good ones are Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji or Maxell.

    Recorder: <TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B>Version: TS11
Can use a firmware update too - the latest is TS12.
    May help the Sony's out.

    Keep us posted!

For general computer health you should make sure DMA is ON for your hard drives.

Get this app, test and see if DMA is enabled.

Hmm... I do not much about DMA and such but I thought it was on. I ran the program and is says UDMA Mode 5 is active. The thing is that I have my hard drives setup through a controller card on a PCI slot. My mobo only had one IDE slot so I had to use the controller card to hook up my hard drives. Would that affect anything?

I have done a firmware update, I will try tommorrow and see how things work. I will keep you all posted and thank you for all the help.

Nero doesn't report DMA mode correctly when it's something other than ide so you're ok there.

If you look in your log you'll see the drives connected by ide are showing on - the others that aren't say off but again in Nero logs that's not always correct. Just best to check & make sure they are on.

A very simple explanation of DMA is your data transfer mode. DMA is faster and less cpu intensive then the slower PIO mode.

    Oh and your welcome :)

Switch to Verbatim DVDR's 16x and burn at 4x for a start, if that works bump the speed to 8x, if you like. I Burn at 4x and my stand alone players work just fine, one is 200 bucks and one is 29 bucks, oh yea, I use DVDR- some like DVD+ but test to see what works for you

It seems you have a very picky burner when it comes to media. Most of the media tested in this review produced less than ideal results, some of the ugliest Transfer Rate tests I've seen.

So far I am four of four using DVD-R Memorex.

I guess the firmware update and lowering the reading speed to 4x has help.

    Thank You all.
