OK. I have a MiniDV camcorder. I transfer to my PC in "DV" format, and as a result get a file of about 19 GB in size for 90 minutes of video. I use TMPGEnc 2.524.63.181 to encode the file (NTSC DVD, 720x480, 6000kbps, etc) to get a resulting file size of about 2.3 GB, which plays fine. I have been trying to join two of these files together (the 2.3 gigabyte one, and one that is 303 MB, but whatever application I use, it always comes up with some sort of error. I have tried several shareware apps, but they seem to have a problem with the file that's over 2 gigs in size. One program I tried calculated the new file size as -9314 GB (that's minus). Another app I tried took over 4 hours to complete the joining and when I checked the file it had created, the file size was 115 GB! I found a post on afterdawn.com that mentioned that VirtualDub can join files, and was thrilled that after a week of trying to join these two stinking files together I would finally be able to do it. Not so! I tried following these instructions posted by a user on this forum:

    =====================================================================
    STEP 1.
    Open AVI 1.
Select video, direct stream copy. Select Audio, full processing. Select File, Save avi.
Save it with a new name, don't overwrite the original.

    STEP 2.
    Open avi 2.
Do exactly the same as avi 1.

    STEP 3.
    Open the NEW avi 1.
Select File, append avi, and open the new avi 2.

Select video, direct stream copy, Select File, save avi.

This works for avi's that have a different AUDIO bitrate.

For videos that have a different VIDEO bitrate/framerate, etc., in STEP 1, select Video, Full Processing. Select Video, framerate. Select "Convert to fps", and input the desired framerate. (Only do this if you MUST change framerate, so both video's have the same one).
Select Video, Compression, and choose a codec. Select File, Save avi.
Do exactly the same in step 2, choosing the same codec, framerate (if necessary), and compression.
    Go to STEP 3.

The error message I get when I try to open the files (both the large and small one) is "No Frames Found In MPEG File". Can anyone help with this annoying problem that I have not been able to find answers to by searching this forum?

    Thanks in advance,
    Mocaso

I just figured out that I can join the multiple files without problems or errors BEFORE I encode them from DV to MPEG, but that doesn't help me solve the problem for the files I have already encoded and no longer have on MiniDV tape.
