    Hey guys, I hope you can help me out please!?? I've been having problems with errorsafe popping up now and again for a while but last week it got crazy so I looked around the net for tips, and downloaded Xoftspy to try and get rid of it. I *did* already have spyware blaster and adaware, and I tried a few programs that ended up just being scanners. Nothing detected errorsafe but there were a few other things that needed tidying. Since running Xoftspy errorsafe seemed to have gone for a bit but immediately I was bombarded with the ULWindow popups. I followed the advice you have here and got rid of a host of problems since installing ewido, zonealarm, spybot, ccleaner, and advanced windows cleaner but nothing has detected the ULwindow popups at all. And errorsafe still lives, Xoftspy's touted errorsafe ability seems non-existent! Can you help me check that these things are gone, or how I can remove them? Thanks!

    Hi garry2kun.

    You don't have an antivirus on your computer. Download and install one antivirus.

    These are good (free) antiviruses:
    AVG Antivirus --> http://www.grisoft.com
    Avast --> http://www.avast.com

    Cleaning instructions:

    Update your Ewido.

    Run HijackThis. Press Do a system scan only, then close all other windows, checkmark the following entries and press Fix checked

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {892FBC7D-1273-4272-AD63-F2A00388FC33} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CD4C3CF0-4B15-11D1-ABED-709549C10000} - (no file)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: wincqt32 - wincqt32.dll (file missing)

    Fix this too if you haven't blocked acces to Internet Explorer settings:
    O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

    Scan and clean your computer with Ewido and save the report.

    Restart your computer.

    You got some hidden entries in your log and we should make those entries visible.
    (There might be some malware lurking behind these entries)

    -> click on Start
    -> click on Run
    -> type msconfig to the field and press enter.
    -> a window opens
    -> click on the startup tab and make sure there are check marks in every entry.
    -> Then press ok until you are out of the program.

    Post the following logs to here:
    -> a fresh HijackThis log
    -> Ewido's log

    Hi JaPK, I actually downloaded AVG.exe yesterday, but into a different folder than usual so I forgot to install it! Kinda stupid...it's running now, and is taking its time. Found a few things already. I tried to update ewido too, but it says there are no more updates. As for the startup I disabled some things in the msconfig that I thought shouldn't be there but I'll enable them again so you can see everything. Its getting late here in Japan so I'll have to get back to you tomorrow- I'll re-run ewido after all the other things are done and then post the log with the new hijackthis and see what we see!!

    Thanks! :D

    Ok you have had a smitfraud infection too so I need one more log...

    Download SmitfraudFix.zip to your desktop -> http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip

    Unzip it (folder named SmitFraudFix) to your desktop:

    Open the folder SmitfraudFix and doubleclick smitfraudfix.cmd
    Choose option #1 - Search by typing 1 and pressing "Enter"; a textfile opens and lists the infected files (if those exist)

    Post the contents of this textfile to here.

    (Some antiviruses recognises process.exe as a malware. It is not malware, it is a program that stops processes)

    Then we'll continue...

    Ok good that we made those entries visible, there were some malware behind it ;)

    Cleaning instructions:

    Disable Spybot S&D's teatimer, instructions -> http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_...nitoring_Programs#Spybot_S.26D_.28Teatimer.29

    Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> Remove Kazaa, Winad Client, WildTangent, Viewpoint Manager, P2P Networking, Norman Antivirus, BullsEye Network if found

    Run HijackThis. Press Do a system scan only, then close all other windows, checkmark the following entries and press Fix checked

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Winad Client] C:\Program Files\Winad Client\Winad.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] RUNDLL32.exe "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll",cdaEngineMain
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [qkewqgfgojcqo] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ceozkz.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Norman ZANDA] C:\NORMAN\Nvc\BIN\ZLH.EXE /LOAD /SPLASH
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BullsEye Network] C:\Program Files\BullsEye Network\bin\bargains.exe

    Make your hidden files visible -> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html
    Restart your computer to the safemode -> http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

    Delete these folders (if found):
    C:\Program Files\Winad Client
    C:\Program Files\Kazaa[/b]
    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking
    C:\NORMAN
    C:\Program Files\BullsEye Network

    Delete these files (if found):
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\ceozkz.exe

    Clean the Recycle bin and make your hidden files visible again.

    Scan and clean your computer with Ewido and save the report.

    When in safemode, open SmitfraudFix folder and doubleclick the file smitfraudfix.cmd
    Choose option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and pressing "Enter" in order to remove the infected files.

    You are asked: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove your desktop wallpaper and the infected registry keys.

    The tool checks if wininet.dll file is infected. You might be asked to replace the infected .dll (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

    The tool might have to restart your computer; if it won't do it, restart your computer back to normal mode.
    A textfile will appear after the cleaning process, copy this file and paste it to here.

    Tha log is saved to your local diskdrive, usually C:\rapport.txt.

    Warning : Running option 2 in a clean computer will delete your desktop wallpaper.

    Post the following logs to here:
    -> a fresh HijackThis log
    -> a fresh Ewido log
    -> contents of C:\Rapport.txt

    JaPK, I know the programs you mentioned to uninstall but none of them are in the add/remove list. What should I do- is it ok to just run the hijackthis and "fix checked" as you say?

    Yes, do that and then continue the instructions...

    This is normal and you propably can't find the folders either...

    But there might be some leftovers so you should continue the instructions to the end :)

    Hijackthis has an "unexpected error" and won't start. I haven't done anything other than what you said...

    ==============

    I searched the hard disk for the O4 stuff (like Kazaa etc) and found some bits of it, so I deleted as much as possible. It seems ok.

    Also, can I uncheck some things from the msconfig startup list again so I don't have everything opening on startup now(like, skype, daemon etc)?

    Ok good you're clean now :)

    And you can uncheck those startups again :)

    You should update your Java (old version has all kinds of vulnerabilities)
    1. Click "Start"-> "Control panel" -> Double-click Java icon (coffee cup)
    2. Move to "Update" tab and update Java by clicking "Update Now". After that do a restart.
    3. If you can't make automatic update, get new version manually from here -> http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
    4. After updating, uninstall the old Java if found from Add/Remove Programs, named as J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

    Now that you're clean, here are some tips how to stay clean.

    -> Stand Up and Be Counted, Malware Complaints -> http://www.malwarecomplaints.info
    The site offers people who have been (or are) victims of malware the opportunity to document their story and, in that way, launch a complaint against the malware and the makers of the malware.

    -> Clear your system restore -> http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/mcgill1.mspx
    This will clear the system restore folders from possible malware that was left behind during the cleaning process. Remember to create a new restore point after the cleaning.

    -> Use CCleaner -> http://www.ccleaner.com
    Download and install CCleaner. Clean your registry and temporary files with it regularly.

    -> Use Ad-Aware -> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/?showtutorial=48
    Download and install Ad-Aware. Update it and scan your computer regularly with it.

    -> Use Ewido -> http://www.ewido.net/en
    Download and install Ewido. Update it and scan your computer regularly with it.

    -> Install SpywareBlaster -> http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
    SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed to your computer.

    -> Install MVPS Hosts file -> http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
    This prevents your computer from connecting to harmful sites.

    -> Change your browser to Firefox -> http://www.mozilla.org
    Firefox is faster, safer and quicker browser than Internet Explorer.

    -> Keep your systen up-to-date -> http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
    Visit Windows Update regularly.

    -> Keep your antivirus and firewall up-to-date
    Scan your computer regularly with your antivirus.

    -> Read this article by TonyKlein -> http://castlecops.com/postlite7736-.html
    So how did I get infected in the first place?

    Stay clean ;)

    JaPK- Thanks!! :) I think everything is ok and running well since the weekend, so thank you very much for your help. I'll be much more careful and keep using all the AV stuff you recommended.

    Cheers :D
