Not sure if this is the right place to put this but cant see where else it would go.

My uncles trying to get internet on a pc using an ethernet cable.
He done a fresh windows install & installed the ethernet driver but it keeps coming up limited or no connectivity.

Theres no way to get internet using the ethernet cable from the modem or router but running a usb cable from the modem to the pc seems to work.

But thats no good as there are 2 pcs downstairs that use the modem & my pc upstairs uses the wireless router.

have you disconnected both the power & coax/telephone cables ftom the modem, count to 20 then reconnect the power & coax/telephone cables in that order? also disconnect & reconnect the router's power cable at same time. have you tried replacing the ethernet cable from the modem to the router or from the router to the pc?

Cant be the ethernet cable as it works in the other pc we tried, so it must be a setting on the pc or the onboard ethernet.
We tried a PCI ethernet card & its working fine now, so maybe the onboard ethernet has given up the ghost ?

that is also good possibility especially if done a fresh install of windows & still not work with onboard.
