    Hi all

Have tried searching through the forum but the search seems not to like % in the search (wildcards I guess!?) so I cant seem to find a similar problem.

I've just started trying to use an EX500 PVR and having problems with the tuning and signal quality. When I first tried it on the one cable I have (I've just moved into the house and this is the only one I know of at the moment) I had poor signal and no channels worked (pixelated). I had the end of the cable re-fitted, tried again and was getting approx 60+% strength when doing the search. Had problems with the channels and the box seems to turn on, then wont come out of standbye for ages, then turns off and resets and then back on again. Tried a re-flash and another scan and now my signal is back down to jumping rapidly between 0-30% and all channels are pixelated.........

I am in welwyn garden, and do not currentl have a sub.

I have no idea who the provider is or was......

I have not managed to get anything working properly at all yet.

Every channel found, when I do 'info, info' shows as 8% level and quality and is pixelated.

When doing a powerscan, it shows lots of very good high percentage finds, but then seems to result in nothing good?

I've seen there is a firmware for "8% signal problem" but this seems to be for another box, I tried it on mine but it would not flash anyway. Does this box (EX500 PVR) have known similar issues? (seems strange that every channel says 8%!)

Why did it show a high green percentage quality yesterday and then after scanning, everything is rubbish?

Sorry for the long post but hoped more info was better than none!

Ps - cant try the seemingly main connection in the house yet as I do not have a cable to connect to the white box......

Thanks everyone for all your help lol......

Only messing, but I have managed to sort it out now! I wrongly assumed the cable I was using had been filtered from where it was split as there was no sign of a box on the wall. Turns out it wasnt!

I found another Nthell box so thought I would take the splitter / isolator from there and try it on the cable I had been trying. Long story short new scan and lots more channels found and all now working with 75-80%

    Now a happy bunny :-D

I didnt have a cable connector for the isolator so had to muller an old aerial cable and cut the end off, and tape it to the isolator, seems to work good enough for me!!!!

    Cheers

I wouldn't leave the taped connector as a permanent solution.

Nothing to be sorry about, I was only joking as said ;-)

I wouldn't either..... What connections do I need, female to male 'F' connector cable? (patch cable?)

Trying to figure out your set up. You took an isolator from another box but is your cable feed from that box or another box?

And so you now have a direct cable feed with an isolator taped to it. And then have a standard coax RF connection into the box. Have I got that right? It works so I cant kick it :) But just trying to picture it to tell you what you need.

Yea I know, its a mess eh!!!!

Right I'll straighten it up a bit, in case it helps others (or even to help you picture what I've done lol)

1 - I have a cable coming out of the wall from the loft I believe with a normal F connector male connection.

2 - I took an isolator from elsewhere that was not split to anywhere, was just a cable into the house and into the isolator, no connections out of the box (nothing connected)

3 - I put isolator onto the cable I had been using (cable out of the wall)

4 - I taped a butchered aerial cable to the isolators tv output socket as I did not have another male F connector to screw into it.

5 - to do this I stripped the aerial cable back to reveal the inner coax core, but kept the outer wires (earth?). I then inserted the coax into the isolator, and leccy taped it on and to shield from outer cable. I then taped the outer cable to the outer part of the isolator (metal screw thread) and this gave me a proper signal!

6 - I have now just purchased one of these to tidy it all up and do away with the adaptors:-

Got it now cheers. Don't forget to get another isolator for the box you took it from, as you may need to use it one day.
