I've got a Eurovox EX5000 pvr with an 80GB hd. These are the details:

    DVB-XC EX5000 TDA
    1.0 ST4 Jul08 2008
    2.0t K5 +D
    V001
    Kuro

It's great and I've not had any problems getting any of the channels since I originally flashed it with the firmware. However, the thing that's driving me nuts is:

1 - When programming the timer to change to the relevant channel (I usually just use the 'VCR record' option as I use my existing panasonic hard drive recorder instead of the HDD in the eurovox), it might change it fine for the first programme, but if there are 2 or 3 different programmmes on different channels that I need to set for, 9 times out of 10 it will not change to the next channel but instead just go to a blank black screen.

2 - The black screen also occurs every single morning when I switch the tv on. It might not even be in standby; it might show a channel on the box display, but it's locked and you cannot change the channel or switch to standby. I have to physically switch the box off around the back and switch back on again. If the box is in standby in the morning and I switch it on via the remote I will also just get a black screen.

I have read that if you leave the box for a while after coming out of standby then it will come on. Mine doesn't - I've tried leaving it for an hour or more. The only way to get it working again is to switch off around the back of the box and back on again.

Are these common issues and are the solvable?

The delay when turning on the TV after the Eurovox has been in STANDBY occurs on mine. Thus it looks as though it is common. Using the Timer has not, so far worked for me. I tend to get 'Scrambled Channel' when I turn the TV off and leave the RECording going. There appear to be a number of idiosynchrosies with this box.

I see, thanks for the reply.

Trying to get around the problem then, my eurovox is on a "second room" so I have a normal virgin box in the main room and eurovox in the bedroom. Virgin know about the extra room - I pay £9.50 pm to get the second virgin box and they came and ran another cable to the bedroom. Anyway, I still have the 2nd virgin box spare so could I split the bedroom cable signal somehow to feed both the eurovox and virgin box and scart both of them upto my tv? This would solve my issues in the main as most of what I timer record is normal terrestrial channels 1-5 anyway so I could just use the virgin box for normal tv watching/recording???

Is this possible and how would I do it, what do I need?

(Please bear in mind you're talking to a 'burd' about technical stuff so please explain it like I'm a 3 year old lol

For starters your Firmware is out dated should be,

    DVB-XC EX5000 TDA
    1.0 ST4 Jul 15 2008
    2.0t K5 +D
    V001
    Kuro

So you will need to reflash your box with the upto date firmware linked at the bottom of my post (Eurovox Flashing Guide)

    Answer to,

1, You will have to use your hard drive in your eurovox to record different channels and not your panasonic hard drive recorder .

2, Common fault and this happends with mine but only when I leave it on standby, Why not turn it off over night with the switch at the back, it will then boot and come out of standby without problem.

To your last question just posted if you do as I said in answer 1 you will not need to do this, if not you will have to buy a 2 way splitter as below,

    You can get these HERE,

You will then need to plug your feed into the splitter then get 2 lenghts FT100 which can be bought HERE by the metre.

You will then need 4 of these,
    [IMG]
fit them to the lengths of ft100 cable then plug one into the subbed box the other into the eurovox coming from the 2 outputs of the splitter..
