Today i got hold of a new Eurovox EX1000SL box, presently i already have another box - A Eurovox Max.

The Eurovox Max, i have not had any problems with, i have had it for probably 2years or so now, slightly less maybe. The Eurovox Max is located downstairs.

I dont really have any experience with TV things, the amount of wires coming from the back scares me half to death, so if theres ever an issue regarding the television, i would call on my friend to do the rescuing.

Anyway, as stated, the Eurovox Max is downstairs, the family are content with watching it, although most of the time i find myself upstairs on the computer, and generally stuck with the Freeview-TV.

However a few days ago, my friend recommended i perhaps buy a new Eurovox for use upstairs. I was always wondering if it was perhaps possible, but i never got around to actually asking. He linked me to the Eurovox EX1000SL model, but shortly afterwards our conversation was cutshort.

Me thinking that he RECOMMENDED the Box, i just went and bought it without a second thought. It wasnt until later he said that he didnt recommend it perse, he just said it was an option - But there was other options which could have been potentially better. However, the deal was done for the EX1000SL, so there wasnt really any turning back.

The EX1000SL arrived today, i decided to actually install it myself (Since, my TV upstairs isnt as cluttered as the one which is downstairs). It wasnt difficult, albeit i didnt like the fact that the power cable is attached to the box, it made it incredibly difficult fitting it through the small hole i have on my table.

Regardless, i fit it up - Powered it on, and immediately i noticed that the screen was blocky. There was a lot of what seemed to be interference coming through, it seemed an awful lot like lag of sorts.

Concerned, i phoned my friend about it. It was decided that i should try the EX1000SL downstairs, and the Max upstairs. So i went off and did it. I removed the Eurovox Max, and i first hit a brick wall in noticing that there was more connectors on the back of the Max, than that of the EX1000SL (Doh!). Luckily i managed to get the combination right, but the standard terrestrial channels were not working.

I didnt let that phase me though, i needed to find out if the EX1000SL was faulty or not. Low and behold, upon fitting it downstairs - It worked! The picture was crystal clear. I was confused, but whatever!

I went upstairs, and fitted the Eurovox Max in my room. That picture was also normal. Excellent. So i just stayed up there for about 10-15minutes, and then went downstairs. Thats when i noticed the picture on the EX1000SL had once again gone blocky.

I was completely baffled by this, but i figured that it only happened when i fitted the Eurovox Max also. My friend had initially thought that perhaps the Max was draining too much power possibly.

I changed the Eurovox' back around (So my Max was back downstairs and connected correctly plus my EX1000SL was upstairs). The picture was still bad on the EX1000SL even after the change around.

My friend come around, and thought it might be faulty leads initially, so what he did was replaced some of the leads with newer ones. He then noticed something unusual. I dont know much of the building work of the house, my dad was the one who dealt with all the leads coming in and out of the house, but a few years ago he passed away, so i am unbeknown as to whats what.

But he seen the the coax-cable came from the outside, and just as it neared the modem in my bedroom, an "extension" coax-cable joined the cable on the outside to the cable modem. he felt that perhaps this could be an issue, but it was only theorising.

He added what i THINK was a switch or something, a 2 way switch. So the cable came through the wall, had the extention, which was now connected to the 2 port switch. The switch then went into my cable modem, and the other into the EX1000SL.

Sadly, this did nothing to help the situation, the picture was still very unclear. He got a bigger one from one of his friends, a 6 port one. He seemed to have a few issues in getting on of the cables into the socket, i think it was the cable modem which was the problem.

During this though, the EX1000SL/TV gave a clear picture while the cable from the cable modem was unplugged. This confused him even more. Because the cable modem wouldnt fit (For whatever reason) we had to revert back to the 2 port switch. We tried a longer cable for the cable modem, but from what i remember this wasnt successful either.

So we have hit a brick wall in terms of getting BOTH the Eurovox Max and Eurovox EX1000SL to be working together. I dont understand the reasoning for why its not working, and my friend says its beyond him pretty much as to why. He suspects the cable, which goes from downstairs, around the house, to my room is very suspect, but theres no way to really confirm it.

My internet is generally stable (Apart from the typical Virgin stuff).

As a sidenote: Since i forgot to fit it in, around the beginning of the issues i took this Eurovox EX1000SL around to my friends house, he flashed the Firmware to what he says was the latest software.

I have gone into the configuration settings in the menu and it has brought up this information:

    Model: DVB-Xc BoxS TDA
    S/W Version: 1.0 ST4 Aug 22 2008
    H/W Version: 2.0tS
    Bootstrap: v001
    S/W Build: Kuro

We tried the EX1000SL at his house, while setting it up, and it worked fine on his TV, but upon bringing it back the problems became apparent for me.

I have been on NTL for about 2 years now, and then Virgin when it was purchased. I havent had any issues with the Eurovox' (Apart from the issues a few months ago where the channels got scrambled).

Anyone have any ideas as to what to do: Bear in mind, i am definately NOT *up* there on technical stuff regarding anything to do with televisions, cables, etc.

    TL;DR

    Bought EX1000SL. Didnt work.
Tried EX1000SL on its own: Worked.
Connected Eurovox Max. EX1000SL ceased working.
Suspect issues with cable going from downstairs to bedroom. Not confirmed.

    Hope someone can help!

    Thanks

Have you tried buying a signal booster?

Yeah. Just found out infact the 6 port switch was actually a signal booster.

It did seem to work, but as soon as we connected the cable modem it didnt help in the end.

Might see tomorrow if i can exhange this with the friend, he has the Eurovox Max also, while its older, i feel more comfortable with it, plus it would be perfect for my room i guess. Until then we shall see if theres any resolution.

As a slight update to this thread:

I spoke to my friend, who agreed to an exchange of boxes. My EX1000SL for a box which is the same as my one which i have downstairs - Eurovox Max.

So, i took the EX1000SL back down to his, it was confirmed as working - Which indeed meant that it was for some reason conflicting with something in my house.

I took his Max, fitted it and it was working fine. There was some occasional interference, but since he knew what he was doing, he managed to tune it in so the picture became better.

The rest of the channels where perfectly fine.

He believes the lack of a manual-tuner on the EX1000SL was the reason for the severe issues. So i will be giving it a good tester tonight, but looks okay upto now!
