I have had a eurovox max v5 for 3 weeks now and I am having problems getting all the channels.

All the frequencies are there but I am not getting any channels on the lower end or upper end frequencies, or rather it is finding the channels but I am getting a no signal message and sometimes updating code message, but never a picture.

I have been in contact with the supplier and I have flashed the box with the latest software.
The supplier has assured me that there is nothing wrong with the device and said that it is likely that my signal strength is too high.

I have tried just about everything from manual tuning to factory resets, my signal strength is ranging from 85% to 98%.

Can anyone help me with this problem before I bin the box, or are there any devices on the market that I can use to degrade my signal strength to below 75% ?

Ensure your Emulation & EMM Capture is set to 'Enable' both of these can be found in the language settings after you type 1968.

Thanks for the advice Kmac, I have had a look at what youi said and the EMM Capture was set to disable.
I have enabled them both and done another scan but unfortunatly nothing has changed. if you could think of anything else I could try I would appreciate it.

Dont no if this will help but if you go to menu- config- tv settings and make sure the signal booster is turned off as this is only for weak signal areas.

It may be the symbol rate you are scanning on m8. For NT* it is 6.887 and for the rest it is 6.952. Bellow is instructions on what to do I would advise doing a full factory default and follow instructions below especially instructions highlited in red:

Written mainly for the EuroVox 2 but basically the same for all. For these boxes all you need is the dabbaman/dnupman program and a null modem serial cable (same as for dbox), Cable feed and a TV obviously, and you will need the relevant firmware.

1; Connect cable input to the RF in socket on your eurovox, also connect box to your pc with null modem cable and also to your TV with scart. And lastly insert the power lead and switch on.

2; Open the dabbaman/dnupman program and confirm you have the correct com port, then select your firmware depending on the model of your box. ie; EV1 = eurovox with 1 scart, EV2 = eurovox with 2 scarts and EVMAX = latest model.

3; Apply power to the box and wait until (----) appears on the front. If your box has been flashed before it won’t display this, it'll just show 4 normal digits.

4; Click on download in the top half of the dabbaman/dnupman window. Then click start in the following window. If your box has not been flashed before it will say (system reset), when this happens reboot the box by removing and reapplying the power lead. If box has been flashed before do not remove power lead, just wait a moment and it will start downloading. If you are trying to flash an EV2 and you get a message saying "this firmware is not fit for your receiver", you must flash with the (EV2 for firmware error) flash.

5; The firmware should now be flashing to the box. (dnld) will appear flashing on the front display. The process takes a few minutes so be patient.

6; Once flash has completed (0000) will appear on front of box.

7; If this is the first time the box has been flashed your TV you should have the user installation screen with an info window saying (please check your cable status) press the exit button on your remote and proceed to step 8. If the box has been flashed before you will have to press the menu button then highlight config then clear data followed by pin no of 0000. In the next screen erase all channels should be highlighted then press the ok button twice. Once the "wait to delete all channels" window has disappeared press the exit button. Now highlight the installation menu and press ok followed by the pin no again.

8; Now press the blue button (powerscan) (the colour options on the remote and on screen differ for the EVMAX this will be the yellow button) this will open another smaller window with the heading "full power scan". If you are on the T/W network press the OK button, if however you are on the NT! network you will have to highlight within the window the first entry for symbol rate, which is usually (6.952) edit this to (6.887)then press OK. The box will now scan all frequencies and find all active transponders for your area, and then it will scan them all for channels. This can be a long process, So go and have a cuppa and a read of your newspaper.

After this ensure your Emulation & EMM Capture is set to 'Enable'

9; If everything has gone to plan you should now have channels, when you go to an encrypted channel you will usually get the message "please wait updating code" it is important you stay on this channel until it clears as this is the box intercepting the latest encryption keys. Allow a few minutes for this process to happen, I would say no longer than 10. If after 10 minutes it doesnt change go to another channel say animal pla*et and again allow 10 mins.
Now for the pain in the ass part, organizing your channels into favourites. The way i did it was to add all the general channels to (fav1) sports & movies to (fav2) kids & music to (fav3) and news & documentary to (fav4). Adult and ppv stuff I put in (fav2) after everything else. Once all this was done I changed the names of the fav groups within favourite manager. Remember your pin no to get into any settings is 0000.
I think it would be a good idea for all members to upload their channel data to the forum after everything has been organized into favourites, stating their area and provider.
This will make it easier for others in future. Also I have noticed that the CC's occasionally mess around with channels and transponders, in which case certain channels may be missing from time to time. By doing an auto scan (red button) within the installation menu you will pick these channels back up again and it shouldn't affect the layout of your favourites.

I did not write these instrictions myself it was gathered from another site but it has worked for me.

    thanks again Kmac,
The latest developement is that i have given the box to a friend, firstly to check that the box is not faulty and secondly hopeing that if it is ok and he finds all the channels, it will then work on mine when i plug it back in.
Anyway the box is fine. he found 240 channels including all the high and low frequencies that i cant get, however the channels still don't show on my system when reconnected. i am getting all the channels i was getting when i scan with my system and all low and high frequencies, i am getting "no signsl" or " searching for signal".
The symbol rate is 9652, and my provider is virgin on insanity, Formaly N*L.
i have tried 3 different types of firmware with the same results. My current firmware is kuro beta, so still a bit stumped really and the phrase Sh*t creak and no paddle is looming ominously on the horizon.

i will leave the box to settle and decode for a couple of days and then i think i could be drop kicking it over the back fence.

    regards
    Eddie

Dunno if this will help but the symbol rate you are scanning on should be 6.887 for N*L

Cheers fellas but i was wrong when i said virgin was formally NTL, it used to be cable and wireless / telepest, i realised just after i pressed the send message tab. i have scanned on both symbol rates and get nothing at all on 6887.
i really am baffled as to why it just struggles with the lower and higher end of the frequencies. any clues would go down well right now, i have been trying to get all the channels for 3 weeks now.

Am I right in saying that you have tried this box in your friends house and all was ok?

Do you have any forward path anttenuators/ equalizers etc attached to your feed or cable and do you have an active feed i.e broadband or basic tv package just now?

Do you know if its analogue or digital you have?

I have asked one of the jedi 'scouser' to come have a look at this thread to see if he has any ideas to solving your issues.

    hi Kmac.

i am not sure if i do have anttenuators/equalizers, as i am not sure what they are, however i do have broadband and basic TV package.
i have connected the box to the braodband feed and i get the same result, i have tried a splitter to no effect.
since tuning the box on my friends system, the channels that i can get are of better quality. but channels that he was getting on his system with my box are not comming through. i have not touched the box since he tuned it. is provider is also virgin media.

    Regards,
    Eddie

i have not seen any of these but he may have fitted them in the outside box and the installer also fitted 2 lighteweight boxes on the inside which i bypassed at one stage but this too had no effect

If you can be arsed go to menu-config-clear data- factory default.
send the beta2 firmware again to your box and follow the instructions I posted previous if you are t/pest use symbol rate 6.952. you can even try manually entering the keys but we will do that once you have done the factory default if you wish.

What geographical area are you in?

take a note of the info thats on your box i.e current symbol rate that is being used just now.

powerscanning now on 6952, as you know, this will take a while. what will i need to look for when i have finished the scan. Channels will be the obvious one. but i know i have done all this on numerous occasions now and still been missing the lower and higher frequencies.

This is the details I am getting for your area courtsy of one of fergs posts:

    Wirral Merseyside 1 Ex C&W 41048 666.750 6.952
    Wirral Merseyside 2 Ex C&W 41060 666.750 6.952

so you are deff on the right symbol rate etc make sure after your scan you make sure Emulation & EMM Capture is set to 'Enable' save both then exit and go to encrypted ch and wait if it doesnt update keys go to a diff ch, and if that doesnt work we will enter keys manually.

we will see how that goes.
