hi all i have a eurovox 2006 blue (original) the prob is it does not come out of standby?( only red standby light on) i have jtagged it! ive tried all sorts please help me!! thanks in advance.
Hi sc0user, Thanks for the reply. Yup I can successfully erase and write the new tsop to it. But the box is still stuck on the red light standby after the whole jtag process. The power board doesnt look damaged at all, and I was thinking if anything had blown the box wouldnt be able to receive any power to make the standby light red right? This whole problem happened after I attempted to transfer a .cdf with all my favourite channels which I have done dozens of times before without a hitch. I'm totally baffled here
Does it show anything on the front display? I presume you have tried to reflash it and have done this in the normal fashion and by boot flash method as in start the flash first and then power up the box.
Nope there is nothing on the screen at all. Just the red standby light. In regards to: I presume you have tried to reflash it and have done this in the normal fashion and by boot flash method as in start the flash first and then power up the box. Yup, thats if you are referring to flashing via the null modem cable with Dnupman. The pc wont pick it up at all. Then I bought a Jtag from ebay and went through this tutorial. This one is courtesy of Sunrise: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Connect JTAG and Power up EuroVox Start JKEYS Click on "Development Panel" Click OK to ingore the warning. ** SEE BELOW IF YOU GET AN ERROR HERE ** If all goes well you will get into the development panel. In the user functions box: Type in the address: 80000000 Click on "Load to . . ." Select the file "unlock_28FxxxC3.bin" Click "Trigger User" Close the current window. Click on "Flash Programming" Choose the model number as: DXD426RD (1 Chip-GLA) In the section on the right: Leave the box above set to "Full" Click "Erase" Select YES. This will take a minute to erase. Click on "Program" Select YES to "Program at address 0x7FE00000, size 0x200000?" Choose your TSOP file (I use "2007tsop.bin" for the EuroVox RED 2007 with Intel chip. Sit and wait for OK to become active, then click it. Close JKEYS and power the box down. Disconnect your JTAG Power the box on. If all has gone well then it should boot up ready for you to rescan for your channels. *** If you get an error trying to get into the devleopment windows **** Power the box down and run SkyMax v2.2 Power the box up Press start. This seems to reset the box when JKEYS cannot connect (DCU errors). Close SkyMax and start JKEYS and try again. I do not know of 2007tsop.bin has any nasty affect on clones or not ... I just know it works immediatly. If in doubt you can now reflash your box with a firmware of your choice using serial cable & dnupman. This method should also work with EuroVox BLUE with Intel chips. ...I have gone through this process at least 10 times. The end result is always the same. Though sometimes there is a green light with the red standby light. The box is still unresponsive when it is like this though. When I pull the power cord out and reconnect it goes back into solo red standby light.
Thats the jtag method for a box with an Intel chipset is that what you have and if so did you use the blue tsop.
Thats the jtag method for a box with an Intel chipset is that what you have and if so did you use the blue tsop. When I first tried jtagging it I used the skymax_up 2.1 software and it was only able to erase the box and refused to write to it after. After a little googling I found that intel chipsets had to be flashed in a certain way. The chip inside my box has ST with OMEGA written underneath it. Then there is a smaller on on the board besides it with intel printed on it. So I am guessing it is intel. The tsop file I am using is called "2006tsop(blue).bin"
Yep thats the correct one then. Do you know anyone else with a blue box and you could try to clone off this?
I have a second blue box and have tried cloning the working one by following this tutorial. 'how to clone your eurovox Firmware to restore another eurovox, box-box transfer' press - menu/ Config/ system information/ 1968 if you can borrow another box it can be restored by set to set transfer. Remove lid from faulty box and locate reset button. Connect both boxes with null modem cable. Go to Menu on working box,/ config/ system info/ then enter 1968 on remote 2 hidden options appear 'set to set download' 1. program code download 2. channel data download program download should show. press reset button on faulty box and wait a moment to see if dnld shows in display, might have to try a few times for it to catch or need to press OK on remote. Should start to download and when complete box will be restored. When I do this the box just searches and searches and cant find the dead the box.
See youve done your homework Something simple but are you using the correct lead between the voxes as in is it a null modem cable? Also check to see if the ribbon cable is firmly pushed down onto the power board. Avenues of repair are getting shorter by the minute Im afraid
I think I am using the correct cable. I'm using the null modem cable that I normally use to connect with voxer to edit my channels. I'm assuming thats the same lead thats used to do a box-box transfer. The avenues of repair are very short indeed. I signed in especially to this forum as I see that you are very knowledgeable and helpful. I was grasping at straws hoping there was something I missed. I was unsure if the jtagging is a bit of a hit and miss thing. In the sense of you have to do it over and over again until it takes. I am pretty sure I have done the process right.
If you have done it right it should be OK, as you said it did say erase and write done. I really think this it is a psu problem more than a tsop one though. Have you checked that the ribbon cable is seated properly. Another thing with the box open, pay particular attention to the 1000mF capacitor on the psu,see if it is bulging .Failing that it may be time to try and get a new board to try out.
I cant really see any bulging on any of the capacitors. However I do see some yellow stuff that appears to be oozing out of the base of the largest capacitor. But I am not sure if its supposed to be like that.I have taken a picture and hope the link works and you can make it out. The picture is zoomed in quite close... http://img507.imageshack.us/my.php?image=powertl4.jpg ...In the meantime I will pull all the ribbons out and reseat them and see if that helps.
Cant really tell if it is coming from the cap itself or a nearby resistor, doesnt look too good though.
Heres another pic thats slightly clearer http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=twovd1.jpg Do resistors ever blow and leak from the bottom? This one has yellow stuff at the base, cant tell where its coming from as its touching something else. Not even sure what a blown resistor looks like! This is all new to me...lol Looks like they are designed to blow their tops judging by that cross on the top of them. If something has blown wouldn't it make the whole thing not work at though? Strange that it still has the power to light the standby red light. But then I am a complete novice when it comes to electronics and cicuits.
Quick question does the cap have "12.0a250v" wrote on it? It might not been blown but is on the verge of doing so. The problem with the EV psu is they are quite hard to get hold of. So if you can fix a cap yourself it may be better. I think awsatellites do spare boards but I am not sure if they have any in stock.
The big blue one (Which is the biggest on the board) says 47 and a funny sign that looks like a "u" f400v
Sorry Rastan never heard of that one going. One idea and I had someone else do it was take it to a TV shop and they repaired it. Obviously you tell them that it is a free to air box, (of course they not it isnt ).
Hi sc0user, My internet connection went down. It seems all the technology in my house is going crazy lately...lol Many thanks for all the help. I might follow your advise and get it repaired at a tv repair shop, if the price is right that is. Regardlessly I have had over a years worth of viewing out of this box so I cant grumble I guess. I appreciate the time and effort you gave to help me remedy my problem
