Sounds like they gave you the wrong lead, you need a null modem cable as it has a cross over config. Similar to this one http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=L71BT&DOY=2m6 This is only for reference and can be purchased cheaper on fleabay.
When you say it says null modem on it where does it say this? If it is a proper null modem cable it will flash straight away.
To see which port your cable is connected to, connect your null modem cable and follow these instructions: 1. Go to the Start Menu 2. Right click on "My Computer" 3. Select "Properties" 4. Click on the "Hardware" tab 5. Click on "Device Manager" 6. Click the + sign next to "Ports (COM & LPT)" 7. One of the listed ports should indicate which port your cable is connected to (e.g. COM1, COM2, COM3, etc.) 8. Go back to dnupman and make sure it is looking at the correct port. 9. You should be able to transfer data once the correct port is selected.
it was the cable causing the port problems got hold of a null modem adapter and normal rs232 cable now when i go to download it just says resetting system but nothing happens i can upload a channel set from the box but still the box stays on standby just showing standby and 4 dashes what am i doing wrong
Cheers scouser done that and its downloaded the stuff will take it home connect it up to ntl and see what happens cheers
that all works now ive got 329 channels only 1 last thing if i go into tv settings the whole thing just locks up and goes into a reset loop that you can only escape from by turning it off is there anyway out of this
Only way I know off is a full factory reset and reflash, do you want to go through the whole process again
yeah need to as i need to set the tv for 16:9 4:3 is no good i can do the flash ok how do you factory reset
