Hey all, Not sure if this is the right thread, but ne way. a friend of mine just gave me a 120HDD for free (woohoo!) the problem being that it came out of and XBOX (Grrr!). I have tried to format it and I’m assuming from my lack of success that it is locked. It’s a Maxtor so I think it was fitted as an upgrade in store hence the locking. Is there any way for me to format it if I don’t, and will never, have the original Xbox ( I think it got fried). I don’t particularly like the idea of having such a potentially useful HDD as a paper weight. Any help much appreciated Robbie
You are going to want to get XboxHDM(Xbox Hard Drive Manager) from Xbins Hold on i will have to give you a link And you will have to get the files from your original HDD and transfer it to your computer Edit: Here is the link http://www.techfreaks.org/articles/modxbox2.shtml
you have to have the eeprom from the xbox that the hard drive was in before your friend gave it to you. without that you wont be able to use xboxhdm to unlock it. edit: you either get the eeprom from the hdd your friend gave you (only if he backed it up, which he should have) or you need the original xbox. however, the former will be hard to do if you dont already have the eeprom on your computer. the only way to get it is to unlock the hdd, and you cant do that without the eeprom. so the latter would be your only option.
there was a recent contest that gives a tut of unlocking locked hard drives i will get the like and crap for it and post it here tommorow
