Im a fairly new Xbox owner, and have had my PS2 chipped for the last 3 years.I was thinking about doing the same to my Xbox but am just wondering, what is the difference between hardmodding and softmodding my xbox and what are the various advantages/disadvantages of each?? Apologies for such a newbie question. Thanks
http://www.teammodders.com/viewtopic.php?t=562 that is all about softmodding. But just like the PS2, the chip will always be better. Like a chipped PS2 is much better than using Swap Magic Good Xbox chips are DuoX2, SmartXX V3, X3CE, Xecuter 3, Xenium ICE Mine has the DuoX2 and i love it, not as feature rich as some of the others i named, but it also has never let me down yet.
Still a soft modded Xbox is better than a PS2 using Swap Magic IMO. No disc swapping the soft modded Xbox.
hey thanks for the response guys. from my reading of the article am i right in saying that softmodding your Xbox allows you to play backup games? So then what is the major advantage of hardmodding-is it just a bigger hard drive to store programs and run emulators?
hardmod vs softmod. Hardmod you put a chip in the xbox which can be turned on and off. Softmod is installed via a hacked game save, you get the gamesave on your xbox via action replay or hotswapping. Once you are in a modded dashboard you there really is not much of a difference. With both hard and softmod you can play xbox, play games from your harddrive, almost all the same. A hardmod is "a lot" safer because you can turn it on and off and not worry about being banned by xbox live. With a softmod if you load a game without the REAL CD in place you will be banned. To play on xbox live with a softmod you just put the CD in, turn off and on your xbox and it is safe. With a hardmod you turn off the xbox, flip a switch and turn it back on.
well as i can not tell you the technical differences i can tell you this. I know a lot of people who know alot about xboxs, and they always go for the chip. So that is why i got one because one of those guys made the Xbox for me, and i love it. A bigger hard drive is really a must have. And if you plan on doing that then i will get you a good tutorial that will tell you easy step by step instructions on how to replce the stock one, which is a weenie 8GB. Playing games strait off the HDD is just faster and a lot easier than always having to get up and stick in a new DVD. I stuck a 300GB in mine and store all my games right on it. I keep a back up on disc just in case. It also runs faster off of the HDD than from a DVD. just something to think about as far as future mods.
@sugarray Depends on what you are wanting to mod your box for. If you are wanting to play on xbox live.. Hard mod is not an option. To my understanding xbox live catches it pretty quick and bans the account. Softmods really only mod the data on the xbox HD. When the softmods first started, they were unrecognizable to live's servers.. now things are changing, but there's always a patch out there to fix it. But if you are wanting a better box, softmods won't do anything for you.
