Would like to backup my hard drive to a external drive I bought from newegg -- EXTHD 100G|MX 3.5 7K 8M U2 M01E100. USB connection

My existing HD is 80g, XP home OS, 512 ram

How do I transfer what is on the 80g drive to backup to the new drive?

XP has built in backup software thru the Accessories links in the Start menu...or your best bet would be to purchase Acronis Disk Image.

I take it the backup drive didn't come with software?

If you have Nero, it comes with Back It Up, which is quite good.

Thanks to both Morth and Paderickm,
I realise the post was a little to soon. Have not received the external drive yet. On my computer I do have Acronis 8.0 and XP backup, have never used Acronis as never understand all the stuff in the help part. At the present I do use the XP backup,
As I live in Florida the weather here gets pretty bad. If we need to get out or get hit with lightning the backup disc will go with the primary. That is my intent to get a external drive to take out quickly.
My post will probably answer itself as to what comes with the drive, it is a retail package.
    Many thanks for your replys,
    Bill
