so the last few dvds i have tried to burn have not worked. but when i believe my problem lies here: when it starts to read the dvd the pop up asking what i want to do with the dvd comes up. my computer makes the sound that i just connected the burner, which i didnt, but it does this several times. it also does the same thing when im trying to watch a dvd using the drive. it a memorex true 8x burner.

i used a new cable when dvd decrypter came opening. so i pulled it all apart to see if there was a loose cable or something else that might be visable. i plugged it all back in. still using new usb cable and i tried a dvd and it worked. havent tried another to see if it was just a fluke or not but my fingers are crossed so hopefully whatever i did fixed the problem.

thanks for the ideas, when you stare at something for so long sometimes you miss the little things that may cause problems.
