I currently have a laptop(dell) with a Nec6500A burner. I'm looking to get a new burner mainly because this one doesn't seem to be able to booktype DVD+ to DVD-ROM. Any suggestions on an external DVD burner?

I'm a internal, benq only user. If I had to go the external route,I'd get the Benq 640/1655/1620 internal drives in that order and slap it in an external drive enclosure, via USB.

BookTyping: Good as gold with benq drives. They all should booktype using the qsuite utlility. The 1620 models can booktype through dvd shrink and nero6.

It's getting very hard to find the 1640 and 1620 drives. I've even been looking at ebay. A couple of those 1640 drives, used, went for $50 + including shipping. My new 1640 was a total of $37

Bilbo65: I believe the sony rebaded 810A has the matsushita chip set in it? With plextor and phillips also using rebadged benq drives. That says something about the quality of benq!!!!

What program are you using to set the booktyping for the 810A in case I run into any other 810A owners with compatability issues?

@bilbo65, How did you set your SONY 810UL to auto Book Typing? I have the same external burner. No complaints, and I recommend it also.:p

bilbo65, What program is that? NERO? If so that's what I use and I was under the impression that because my external burner does not allow for the Book Type drop down as with my internal SONY drives in NERO, I thought it did not book-type? Let me know.
