Using two identical lg 5163d dvd burners external via usb 2.0. Successfully burning at 8x from one to the other for a few months. Suddenly they wont burn to each other and will only burn 4x from Nero or dvdshrink or Roxio. Updated drivers a few times and rebooted whole computer twice. Removed nero twice and reinstalled but problem persists. Looking in Nero info tool shows dma turned off on these drives but believe normal for external connection. Did all the reinstalls in the windows device manager but no change..any other suggestions?
Well the problem was the blank media after all. Switched to tdk 16x on sale at compusa and my lg burners will only do 2.4x or 4x with those. With verbatim 16x blank media burn speed goes back to normal between 8x and 16x. But I did learn a lot about device manager in the process of tracking down this problem...just sorry I didn't think of this a little sooner. Have burned over 1000 dvd before this happened.
