Can any avid blank media users recommend a good inexpensive DVD drive. I will be using it for the sole purpose of burning, single and dual layer. Are there any good makes and/or models I should look for? Thanks in advance to all who make a positive contribution to this thread.

EDIT: Is this particular burner of any good, more specifically for dual layer burning? The reason I ask is I happen to have seen these particular model at Futureshop and so they are available and within my price range.

    Have you seen this thread?

    Forum Thread

This is what it says about brands.

What Make of Dvd Burner Do I Need to Look for??
As with all tech things, there are good brands, and there are bad ones. These are the brands you should look at buying.

    -LiteOn
    -Pioneer
    -Plextor (Very Expensive)
    -NEC
-BenQ (Not in production under BenQ anymore - look for OEM Philips drives. "BenQ DW1620, 1625, 1640, 1650, 1655 all used Philips chipsets" - catfreak)
-LG (Do your research, not all of their drives are good)

Best Buy in the US carried the LG GE20 like the one you are asking about. It was about $100 US.

Looks like you are from Canada and the price conversion on that one is about $50 US. Pretty good price if you ask me for an External.

I looked at that one but I think I want something better. I think I am going to try a Plextor or Liteon.

Happy hunting. Let me know what you get.

Thank you for the information. Is there a reason why you passed on the LG GE20?
