i've got 2 now, a 2.5 inch & 3.5 inch & thinking of getting the 5.25 inch. the 2 i have are usb2 not firewire so if getting 1 than make certain you have either usb or firewire connection on your computer. i use the 2.5" with a 40gig hd on both usb1 & 2 on customers' computers. occassionaly i use the 3.5" on customers' computer afield but mostly at home. i've use both of these on win98, me, 2k & xp with no problems!

Yeah they are great, i use a icybox enclosure with a Wd 200g HD just for movies & plan to get another, you can get enclosures with both USB & Firewire connections...other than that they are ideal if you have limited space in your pc case

depends on how sealed they are with out fans. my 2.5" drive has no fan nor does the 3.5" but i'm not using the shell, just the tray the drive sits on & plugs into.
