okay so i've got my brand new hard drive, put it in an enclosure and got it working with my Macbook Pro just fine. I plugged it into my PC and it won't show up. I know that I have to initialize the drive on the PC to be able to use it but I was just wondering if a) initializing means formatting in which case it would erase all the data and b) if I initialize it with the PC will it still work with my Mac? so basically I just want to be able to use this hard drive with my PC AND my MAC any help is greatly appreciated
what do u mean by initialize anyways b4 u placed the hd on the enclosure did u put the hd as master or slave?
well i dot know if its a master or a slave but... as far as initializing is concerned, I found out that the reason it wasn't showing up as another drive on 'my computer' is that the drive has to be initialized first.. i dont remember how to do that but I was just going to find out how again
tho for seagate, still the same for other hd manufacturers. http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/disc/howto/install_xp_disk_mgmt.html
hi thanks for that but will initializing that drive on the PC make it unable to use on my MAC (it already works on my mac)
i've seen 1 working on a pc work on a mac. keep info on the mac until you have partitioned & formated the external on the pc then hookup to mac to get that info.
