I bought a WD My Book 250GB external hard drive about 2 years ago. It has been working flawlessly since the day I bought it. Today, I tried to transfer a 4GB file from my C: drive(Internal) to my G:(external) and it said it was going to take over an hour to transfer. Last night, I transferred a 3GB file from C: to G: and it only took about 5-6 minutes, which was the normal for the last two years. Now,whenever I transfer a 4GB file from G: to C:, it only takes a few minutes. Everything is still the same since I bought it. I have USB 2.0 and I even bought a new USB cord, that didnt work. So,I transferred all of my files from G: to C: so I could format it. That made no difference either. Any suggestions?

    Hi gcrew,

Not sure what the problem may be, but if i was in the same situation i would test the drive out on another PC (a friends maybe), this wont solve the problem, but it would give me an indicator as to wether to investigate my USB connections and drivers, or the drive itself.

I assume you have tried more than one of your USB ports. Also check USB drivers in device manager for conflicts.

If it is also slow on another computer, you can try installing it internaly in the PC to see if the problem is the drive itself or something in the Enclosure.
